TSMC announced the financial results of the third quarter, where it achieved almost a + 30% compared to last year. The 5 nanometer production process accounted for 8% of the production turnover, but in 2021 it is expected to rise to 20%, becoming more and more central in the offer from the Taiwanese foundry.

The 5 nanometer production by TSMC is getting more and more alive , so much so that in the last quarter it weighed on the overall financial results for 8%. The production process should assume an increasingly central role for the Taiwanese foundry, not only in 2021 when it should rise to about 20% of turnover , but also thereafter ito, as it should remain a central part of the offer for its customers for a long time.
Most of the 5 nanometer production should be absorbed by orders related to the sector HPC and everything related to the 5G , with Apple who should represent the primary customer not only thanks to SoC orders for new iPhones 12 , but also of Apple Silicon chips that will constitute the first models of the new Mac range based on internally designed processors.
Another slice of orders (at the moment it is not clear to what extent) could be linked AMD , important partner of TSMC in recent years, with the EPYC Genoa CPUs based on Zen 4 architecture that will be produced at 5 nanometers and whose debut is expected by the end of the pro sixth year.
7 nanometer processes and 16 nanometers still dominate in TSMC’s accounts, with values respectively of 35% he was born in 18%. In the third quarter, 46% of the projects carried out is attributable to smartphones, followed by 37% of HPC solutions and 9% of IoT solutions. TSMC closed the third quarter with a turnover of 12, 14 billion dollars, up by 29, 2% on last year he was born in 16, 9% on the second quarter. According to the company’s estimates, turnover is expected to rise between 12, 4 and 12, $ 7 billion in the fourth quarter.
