Intel's next-generation Sapphire Rapids will appear on the camera
Source: IO Tech added 13th Dec 2020Sapphire Rapids is expected to be Intel’s first server processor to support DDR5 memory and PCI Express 5.0 buses.
Two images of a processor based on Intel’s Sapphire Rapids architecture have been leaked into the discussion area of the ServeTheHome site, one on top of the processor and one underneath. The exact configuration of the LGA 4677 -based processor is not known, but it is based on two separate silicon chips. The configuration of the two chips is revealed at the latest from the heat exchanger of the processor, which has separate raised sections for each chip. The heat exchanger also has a clock frequency of 2 GHz, which should refer to the basic clock frequency of the processor.
Sapphire Rapids will be Intel’s first processor architecture to support DDR5 memory. According to previously leaked data, it is equipped with a maximum of eight DDR5 memory channels, PCI Express 5.0 and CXL 1.1 support, and new Intel Data Streaming Accelerator units. The processors will be manufactured using Intel’s 10 nanometer manufacturing process, but it is currently uncertain which version of the process will be used.
