Introduction

Netac is primarily known as an OEM provider for flash memory based products. Founded in 1999 and based out of Shenzen, China, Netac has started the transition to the retail space in 2021 to offer its own branded products. Today we will be looking at Netac DDR5-4800 memory kit. This is primarily marketed towards consumers, from content creators to gamers alike because of the high system compatibility among DDR5 supported platforms. This is accomplished by simply following the JEDEC DDR5 specification.

With AMD’s imminent upcoming release for its new processors, DDR5 will finally be exiting the early adoption phase shortly thereafter. Throughout 2023 we will see that the prices will continue to decrease as the market shifts to higher DDR5 production volume and sales. This is great news for those who aren’t looking to spend an excessive amount of money, when the benefits of DDR5 in its current form may only provide minimal gains to the end user. However, a downside is that once AMD switches over, there will be no alternative to using DDR5 for Zen 4 based systems. For those Intel owners, this will likely be the case as well after the current Intel LGA 1700 socket and supported CPUs. This brings up the question; do you really need high frequency DDR5 with ultra-low timings? Well, the answer of course is abstract and will be dependent upon users and their individual needs. In this review, we will explore this question in detail.

With Netac being relatively new to the consumer market, their offerings for DDR4 and DDR5 kits are limited. Currently Netac offers two memory SKUs for DDR5. These are Shadow RGB and Shadow II, the latter without RGB lighting. Configurations include 16 GB (2x 8 GB), 32 GB (2x 16 GB) and 64 GB (2x 32 GB) kits, with frequencies ranging from 4800 MT/s to 6200 MT/s. In this review, we will be taking a closer look at the Netac Shadow II DDR5-4800 16 GB (2x 8 GB) memory kit. Following the JEDEC guidelines, this memory does not feature an XMP profile, and operates at 1.1 V. Following JEDEC specifications, we will test this memory for a quick comparison between kits and perform a bit of overclocking as well. Without further delay, let’s get started!
