Update March 5th, 2021 1:00PM ET: Best Buy has sold out of both the PS5 and PS5 Digital Edition models. If you are still looking for an Xbox Series S, it is still available on the retailer’s website.
The PlayStation 5 has been out for over three months now. Since then, it has been one of the most difficult gadgets to purchase. If you are looking for another shot to get this console, Best Buy has the PS5 Digital Edition and PS5 models up for purchase.
If you are looking for an Xbox Series X / S instead, Best Buy has also restocked Microsoft’s next-gen consoles today.

Once you obtain your PS5, there are a few items you’re going to want to pick up for your console. Some of the most popular PS5 exclusives right now include Demon’s Souls Remake by Bluepoint Games or the PS5 version of Yakuza: Like a Dragon, which is now available on Sony’s next-gen console.
If you plan to play local co-op with family or friends, an extra DualSense controller might also be a good item to pick up.
One thing I also recommend buying is a one-year membership to PlayStation Plus, as the perks of having a subscription are great for PS5 users. Most notably, it nets you access to the PlayStation Plus Collection, an exclusive perk for PS5 owners, that provides access to “generation-defining” titles that were released originally on PS4, including Bloodborne, Persona 5, and Uncharted IV: A Thief’s End.
There’s no way to expand the SSD storage in your PS5 yet, but Sony is reportedly expanding the options for more SSD storage sometime this summer. But, if you want to store some older PS4 titles on your console so you don’t use your limited SSD storage, I strongly advise buying an external hard drive to store those titles.
Home/Software & Gaming/Outriders demo reaches 2 million players, new patch coming
Matthew Wilson 4 hours ago Software & Gaming
People Can Fly seems to be off to a good start with Outriders. At the end of February, the team released a demo version of the game and so far, over 2 million people have downloaded it and tried it out. To keep the ball rolling, a patch for the demo is being released, which will make a few changes based on feedback.
The announcement reflects on some of the launch day issues that the demo faced, including a few hours of connectivity issues, which were brought on by the number of players logging in to play as soon as the demo went live. Things quickly smoothed out a few hours later and some infrastructure changes have been made to avoid this issue creeping up again on launch day.
As for the demo, a patch is on the way to add the following to the PC version:
Added a Motion Blur Toggle
Made minor tweaks to frame rate output for certain items in cutscenes, however, we are working on a more comprehensive fix for the future
Fixed a crash that repeatedly occurred when opening the menu or inventory
Made improvements to cut down on the time it takes to Matchmake
Fixed a bug that deletes player gear if their connection drops out during a transition
Improved subtitle display and synchronization during the “Bad Day” quest
Made other minor improvements and fixes
A back-end update is also taking place for the demo later this afternoon at 3PM GMT. This downtime will take place across all platforms and will make some changes to enemy AI based on player feedback.
Outriders is planned to release on the 1st of April 2021 for PC as well as Xbox and PlayStation consoles. Progress made in the demo will carry over to the final game at launch.
KitGuru Says: Did many of you try the Outriders demo last weekend? What did you think of it? Will you be jumping back in again following today’s patch?

Ghost of Tsushima’s developers will become ambassadors for the island
Ghost of Tsushima took many by surprise when it launched last Summer, offering a beautiful …

2020 was a rough year for many industries. Due to COVID-19 and the global pandemic, many markets were either severely restricted or shut down entirely. For gaming however, this unfortunate situation served as a boon for the industry. Throughout 2020, the industry went through record growth in many aspects, and it has now been confirmed that Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo all sold more consoles in the UK in 2020 than 2019.
As reported by Gamesindustry.biz, in the UK, over 3 million consoles were sold across 2020 – roughly 800,000 more consoles than in 2019. In 2020, Nintendo sold 1.5 million Switch consoles, an increase of 50% when compared to 2019. Sony meanwhile sold 900,000 PS4 and PS5 consoles, compared to 700,000 the year prior.
Of course, the PS5 only released in late 2020, but it reportedly contributed to half of all PlayStation sales for the year. Lastly, Microsoft sold 600,000 Xboxes in 2020, 310,000 of which was either an Xbox Series X or S, and in total sold 100,000 more consoles than the year prior.
That being said, despite this growth, the video game industry was impacted by COVID-19 to some degree. All three console manufacturers suffered from stock issues, in particular Sony and Microsoft with the PS5 and Series X|S. It would have been interesting to see just how many consoles all three manufacturers would have sold had stock not been an issue.
With both the PS5 and Series X|S still suffering from major stock shortages, it will be interesting to see how console sales line up come the end of the year, and whether the industry will continue to go from strength to strength.
KitGuru says: Are you surprised by this growth? Did you buy a console in 2020? Do you think 2021 will surpass it? Let us know down below.

Both the Sony PS5 and Microsoft Xbox Series X / S gaming consoles will be back in stock at Walmart later today. A Walmart spokesperson told The Verge that the retailer will have the consoles available for purchase again at 11:30AM PT / 2:30PM ET for the Xbox Series X / S and 12PM PT / 3PM ET for the PS5. As usual, stock will likely not last very long.
Walmart plans to have inventory for the PS5, the PS5 Digital Edition, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S gaming consoles, with prices ranging from $300 to $500 depending on the model you purchase.

If you plan to buy a PS5 console, there are a few additional items you should pick up to get the most out of your new console. I recommend picking up a second DualSense controller, which is necessary for any in-person multiplayer action. I suggest that early adopters also subscribe to PlayStation Plus, which gives you a few perks, such as access to the PlayStation Plus Collection.
No option to expand PS5’s SSD, but it is likely coming later this year.
If you are buying either an Xbox Series X or Series S, an additional controller is likely a good purchase. And unlike the PS5, you can purchase a 1TB SSD expansion to add to the Xbox’s base storage (512GB on the Series S, 1TB on the X), though it is not cheap. If you are having trouble deciding on what games to buy, you can always buy a subscription to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, which gives you access to a slew of digital games and access to Xbox Live Gold.
Sony has announced a new slate of PlayStation VR games for later this year. It includes a virtual reality adaptation of Doom 3, as well as titles from a few successful VR studios and a couple of relative newcomers to VR.
Sony announced a new generation of PSVR for its PlayStation 5 console last month. The headset will come with a redesigned controller, a single cord instead of the original cable box, and a higher-resolution screen, among other upgrades. But Sony hasn’t unveiled the headset or offered many details, and it’s said the device won’t arrive in 2021. So today’s games will be launching for PSVR — with the promise of a better experience down the line.
Doom 3 VR, the only title with a precise release date, will launch on March 29th for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. It’s a “retooled” port of the original 2004 shooter and its two expansions, designed for PSVR’s gun-like Aim accessory. A short trailer offers a preview of the gameplay and updated graphics.
This is the second Doom game for PSVR, following the 2017 VR original Doom VFR. It’s also not the first time Doom 3 has appeared in VR. The game was originally promised as part of the Oculus Rift headset launch, but it was canceled amid a lawsuit from Doom rights holder ZeniMax. (ZeniMax was acquired by Sony’s rival Microsoft last year.) More recently, a modding team unofficially ported Doom 3 to the Oculus Quest.
Vertigo Games, creator of zombie VR shooter Arizona Sunshine, will be bringing its cooperative followup After the Fall to PSVR as well. After the Fall was announced a couple of years ago, and it was expected to launch in 2020 on both PSVR and PC-based VR. It was delayed in part because of the coronavirus pandemic, rescheduled for early 2021 — a window Sony is reiterating here.
PlayStation VR will also be supporting I Expect You To Die 2 — a sequel to the wildly successful escape room title, originally announced for Steam in January. The game promises the same richly interactive spy-themed puzzles as I Expect You To Die, which has proven one of the most enduringly popular VR games since its launch in 2016.
The other games don’t have the same immediate name recognition, but they’re intriguing additions to the PSVR catalog. Fracked is developed by nDreams, the studio behind kayak-based stealth shooter Phantom: Covert Ops. Continuing the sports-plus-guns formula, its new game is an action shooter built around skiing — alongside climbing, zip lines, and old-fashioned duck-and-cover combat. It’s also apparently about a fracking facility that’s been “taken over by an army of gun-wielding, interdimensional maniacs.” (It’s unclear whether the maniacs are pro- or anti-fracking.) The game will be released this summer for PlayStation Move controllers on both generations of Sony consoles, but with improved frame rates and resolution on the PlayStation 5.
In a slightly calmer vein, there’s Song in the Smoke by Galak-Z developer 17-Bit. It’s a VR survival game that focuses on crafting, hunting, scavenging, and exploration in a mysterious world. A trailer shows off some gorgeous landscapes and creature design, as well as mechanics like archery. It’s launching at an unspecified point in 2021.
Sony also announced the 2021 release of Zenith, an anime-influenced massively multiplayer roleplaying game funded on Kickstarter last year. It’s set in a high-tech fantasy world that’s designed for players to climb and glide around, in addition to fighting with a VR-adapted version of conventional RPG combat.
Update March 3rd, 2021 11:04AM ET: Amazon has sold out of both PS5 console models.
Sony’s latest gaming console, the PS5, is one of many gaming gadgets that are hard to find in stock right now due to mostly online-only sales. If you are trying to get your hands on one, Amazon has restocked both the PS5 Digital Edition and the PS5 consoles right now, while supplies last.

I strongly suggest buying a one-year membership to PlayStation Plus, as the perks of having a subscription are great for PS5 users. Most notably, it nets you access to the PlayStation Plus Collection, which is a digital library of some of the most popular first- and third-party titles released on the PS4 such as Bloodborne and The Last of Us Remastered. I also advise picking up an extra DualSense controller.
If you want to expand your SSD storage, sadly, there is no way to do that just yet. But Sony is reportedly expanding the options for more SSD storage sometime this summer.
Samsung just leveled the playing field a bit in the battle between TVs and gaming monitors. PC monitors have long held an advantage over TVs for gaming, largely due to speedier refresh rates and response times. The best gaming monitors also fight screen tearing with some flavor of Adaptive-Sync. TVs, meanwhile, have made advanced display technologies, like OLED and mini LED, more attainable. Today, Samsung threw bones toward both corners, announcing the first TV with AMD’s most advanced screen tearing fighting technology and the marriage of its “Quantum Mini LED” technology and Samsung Odyssey G9 curved gaming monitor.
During its Unbox and Discover event today, Samsung debuted the first TVs to include AMD FreeSync Premium Pro, which will work with both PCs and gaming consoles, like the new PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. FreeSync Premium Pro will be available on Samsung’s 4K resolution Q70A and up, as well as the 2021 version of its customizable TV, aptly named The Frame.
There are numerous TVs available from Samsung, as well as from LG, with FreeSync Premium, which calls for a minimum 120 Hz refresh rate and adds low framerate compensation (LFC) compared to standard FreeSync. FreeSync Premium Pro takes things a step further by also supporting HDR content.
The vendor’s also throwing in a new Game Bar, which helps gamers monitor “critical aspects of play,” according to today’s announcement, and use Samsung’s Super Ultrawide Gameview feature, enabling ultrawide aspect ratios more commonly found in PC monitors than TVs.
But the electronics giant also had news to share with gamers committed to PC monitors, however. The Samsung Odyssey G9 needed no help being extreme. With a 1000R curve, it’s already as curvy as gaming monitors get today. However, Samsung upped the premium ante today by unveiling the 2021 version of the monitor with Quantum Mini LEDs. The 2020 version uses QLED, which is just another type of LEDs invented by Samsung for improved brightness and color.
Quantum Mini LEDs are already available in Samsung TVs, but the 2021 Odyssey G9 will mark one of the first mini LED gaming monitors, if not the first (depending on when it’s actually available to buy.).
According to Samsung, its Quantum Mini LEDs are 1/40th the height of a standard LED (what you’ll find in the vast majority of gaming monitors). Additionally, “instead of using a lens to disperse light and a package to fix the LED in place, [a] Quantum Mini LED has incredibly thin microlayers filled with many more LEDs.” Samsung’s Quantum Matrix Technology is supposed to enable precise control over those tiny LEDs to help fight blooming, also known as the halo effect. This would be particularly impressive, as even premium gaming monitors with FALD backlights can fall victim to the halo effect.
We already saw what the power of mini LEDs could do for image quality, particularly contrast, in our review of the Asus ProArt PA32UCX, a monitor for professionals. But we’ve yet to see the technology in a PC monitor built for gaming. Asus and Acer have both promised to release their own mini LED gaming monitors, but that hasn’t happened yet.
At $329, Apple’s eighth-generation iPad is the most affordable tablet offered by the tech giant. But if you want to save some additional cash, you can buy the base model, which includes 32GB of storage, for only $299 at Amazon in space gray only (in stock March 28th). Walmart is price-matching the e-commerce giant, but you have the option to buy it for $299 in space gray or rose gold.
This iPad includes a 10.2-inch display and features an A12 Bionic processor. The tablet also includes a Touch ID fingerprint sensor and a Smart Connector, allowing you to connect it to a Smart Keyboard.

If you need to buy a subscription or renew your membership this month, you can grab a one-year membership to the service for only $28 at Eneba.
Amazon and Best Buy have discounted Crucial’s P5 internal SSD. You can grab a 1TB configuration for only $110, the lowest price yet. It’s a good option for PC owners looking to upgrade their systems or improve their games’ loading times. Crucial says the P5 SSD promises up to 3400 MB/s read speeds and 3000 MB/s write speeds.

If you prefer buying all your movies and TV shows on the PlayStation Store, you won’t be able to do that for much longer. In a blog post today, Sony announced that it is discontinuing those purchases on its digital store starting August 31st.
As for why, Sony cites the “tremendous growth” of entertainment consumed through subscription-based services and ad-based entertainment streaming services on the company’s PlayStation hardware.
Fortunately, Sony confirms that anyone who has purchased movie or TV content through the PS Store or plans to do so before August will still have access to that content after the changes go into effect, with on-demand playback available on PS4, PS5, and mobile devices.
This is not the first time Sony has removed less popular media from the PS Store. Last October, Sony said the revamped PS Store that arrived prior to the launch of the PS5 would no longer allow users to purchase older games and DLC released initially on the PS3 or the PSP and Vita handhelds, unless you were browsing the store from those devices.
March kicks off Sony’s “Play at Home Initiative,” and the first game available for PS4 and PS5 owners is Ratchet and Clank. PlayStation owners on both consoles can redeem a free digital copy of the game until March 31st at 8PM PT / 11PM PT, without requiring a PlayStation Plus subscription.
Ratchet and Clank was released on PS4 in 2016 by Insomniac Games, serving as a remake of the original 2002 game for the PlayStation 2. The game has previously been available for PS5 users with a PS Plus via the PlayStation Plus Collection, but this version is yours to keep and does not require an active subscription to PlayStation Plus.
To encourage gamers to stay at home during the pandemic, Sony plans to offer more as-yet-unannounced games free with no strings attached to PS4 and PS5 owners through June. The option to make Ratchet and Clank available as the first game comes at an interesting time as the game’s sequel, Rift Apart, launches on June 11th for PS5.
Maybe you like the PlayStation 5’s distinctive white-and-black look. Maybe you don’t. Maybe you’d settle for a Zune-brown and orange model as long as you could find it in stock. But wherever you come down on the PS5’s color, one thing’s for sure: there’s a lot of demand for other options.
That’s what Dbrand was betting when it put its matte black replacement “Darkplates” on sale recently while baiting Sony to sue. Successive waves of the product sold out fast to the point where they’re now almost as hard to find as the PS5 itself; the next batch won’t ship til May, though you can still put a backorder in.
Anyway, I don’t mind how the PS5 looks myself, but since Dbrand sent over a set of Darkplates, I was curious whether they’d change my mind. This afternoon I took off my PS5’s lightplates (?) to see for myself.
The process is quite simple. Here’s Dbrand’s video on how to replace the PS5’s plates:
I found it a little more difficult to take off the stock white plates than this video suggests, but I was reluctant to apply too much force out of fear of damaging my rare-as-hens’-teeth console. Once you do manage to unhook the plates and slide them off, it’s very easy to attach the Darkplates in their place — they just pop right in with a satisfying click. It doesn’t feel like you’re doing anything the PS5 wasn’t intended to do out of the box, so I think Sony is missing out by not selling its own official swappable plates.
Here’s how the PS5 looks on both sides with the stock plates removed:
And here are some shots with the Darkplates attached:
The Darkplates feel sturdy and of high quality — these aren’t just flimsy pieces of plastic. You’d expect as much for $49 plus shipping, of course. But Dbrand has definitely gone the extra mile to make this feel like a premium product, and this is maybe best expressed by the company’s own spin on Sony’s PlayStation icon microtexture. As on the PS5, it’s difficult to see with the naked eye or to photograph, but it’s there:
Dbrand also sent over a matte black skin to cover the glossy black middle portions of the PS5. These are available in various colors, too. I found it easier to apply than I expected, but it didn’t turn out 100-percent perfect — the skin was slightly lopsided around the USB-A port, though not in any way that’d obstruct usage. But I’m not really convinced that I prefer this look to simply leaving the middle section glossy.
Here are some shots with the skin attached for full matte-black effect:
Finally, I thought I’d compare my newly matte-black PS5 to the similarly matte-black Xbox Series X. I have to admit, the black finish does seem to have a slimming effect on the PS5:
As mentioned before, the Darkplates cost $49 plus shipping, while the middle skin is an extra $11.95. You can still order now, but they won’t ship until May. Is it a lot to pay to change your PS5’s color? Yes. But if you have your heart set on the idea, I think you’ll enjoy the Darkplates.
An outage of Sony’s PlayStation Network that began Friday afternoon appeared to be persisting on Saturday morning. According to an update on the status page timestamped 6:33PM (not clear what time zone that is) on February 26th, the affected platforms are PS Vita, PS3, PS4, and PS5.
“You might have difficulty launching games, apps, or network features. We’re working to resolve the issue as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience,” the update reads.
Engadget reported that the outage may be affecting some games but not others; Fortnite appeared to be accessible but Minecraft and Call of Duty: Warzone were not.
The PlayStation Network outage began a day after Microsoft’s Xbox Live service suffered a global outage for five hours. On February 10th, the PlayStation Network was down worldwide for about an hour.
We’ve reached out to Sony for details about what’s causing the outage, how widespread it is, and when it may be resolved, and will update when we learn more.
Atlus is a master of weird spinoffs. In the past, the developer has revamped its RPG series Persona as dungeon crawlers, brawlers, and rhythm games. Heroes have bounded through space and time for fanfiction-worthy team-ups, all in service of giving players a reason to see their favorite characters again. Persona 5 Strikers goes one step further, turning an action-heavy adventure into a road trip that feels right at home with the original game.
Persona 5 Strikers is a direct sequel to Persona 5, set months after the Phantom Thieves hung up their masks. The gang reunites for a long-overdue vacation, only to have it interrupted by the appearance of Jails — warped versions of reality where one person rules, not unlike the Palaces they encountered in the original game. To solve the mystery of these jails, the Phantom Thieves get an RV and take their investigation across Japan.
Strikers is an action-RPG take on the game in the vein of Omega Force’s other spinoffs of popular series, like Hyrule Warriors. It trades in the careful turn-based strategy of the original for button-mashing through mobs. Players are no longer confined to controlling only the game’s hero, Joker, and can swap between party members like Makoto or Ann at will. In addition to elemental abilities specific to their personas, like nuclear or wind attacks, each has special physical attacks to help you through battle. Characters I barely used in the original Persona 5, like Ryuji, became my go-to for mobs I wanted to melee; I rarely needed Morgana’s magic but loved his ability to turn into a car and mow down shadows.
Despite being able to swap between characters, the game’s mash-heavy gameplay can become monotonous at times. On a good streak, I would string together combos, pile on follow-up and all-out attacks, and zap enemies with magic attacks — but mostly, I just spent a lot of time frantically hitting buttons. The amount happening on-screen can sometimes be dizzying if not tough to follow, between characters talking during battle and zipping around a screen smashing enemies in the face.
Persona 5 Strikers doesn’t offer as robust an experience as the original game — there are no personality traits to improve, and relationships are distilled down to a single “Bond” metric that applies to your entire team — but it offers a solid array of ways to break up your playtime. New cities mean sidequests, shops to visit, and recipes to find for you to cook with; party members often want to visit special restaurants and attractions. The constraints of a deadline are gone as well. You can pop in and out of jails as often as you wish to go hang with your friends.
The experience feels like a streamlined version of Persona, the video game equivalent of a summer vacation. It’s a way to spend extra time with a world I fell in love with over the course of dozens of hours, and a welcome expansion to the game’s mythos. Where Persona 5’s Palaces were desires pushed to their extreme and corrupted, Jails revolve around trauma. In order to defeat the monarchs of each jail, you’ll need to first uncover and understand the pain that birthed them.
It’s a welcome change, a turn that makes people’s cruelty more interesting. Persona 5’s examinations of people at their darkest sometimes ran up against the cartoonish villainy of it all. The rulers you faced were so exaggeratedly evil that taking them down needed no justification. But Strikers offers a more complex alternative: that hurt people hurt people. The monarchs have manipulated and deceived, yet they’re still a path for them to learn and grow from their mistakes.
As a sequel, Persona 5 Strikers doesn’t offer much in the way of big revelations — but it doesn’t have to. Like the series’s many other spinoffs, the allure is the opportunity to play in their world a little longer. Clearing a jail is fun, but it still can’t compare to a night out with your friends.
Persona 5 Strikers is available on Nintendo Switch, PC, and PlayStation 4.

Canelo has only ever been defeated as a professional by the legendary Floyd Mayweather, a result that took place way back in 2013. No surprise, then, that the WBA (Super), WBC and The Ring super-middleweight champion is a huge favourite for this blockbuster fight.
The Mexican star out-punched Callum Smith in a stunning display last December to enter the champions’ enclosure at 168lbs. If he can defeat Turkey’s Avni Yildirim on Saturday, he could unify the division just two months after picking up his belts, and tee up a massive fight against against Billy Joe Saunders this summer.
Yildirim is a good fighter but he got knocked out by Chris Eubank Jr in three rounds. He’s a low level threat to a fighter of the calibre of Canelo and will do well to last all 12 rounds of this super-middleweight clash.
Here’s how to get a Canelo vs Yildirim live stream, one of the most anticipated fights of the year, from anywhere in the world.
Canelo vs Yildirim live stream for £1.99

Watch a Canelo vs Yildirim live stream from abroad using a VPN
Even if you have subscribed to the relevant Canelo vs Yildirim rights holders, you won’t be able to access them when outside your own country. The service will know your location based on your IP address, and will automatically block your access.
A Virtual Private Network (VPN) helps you get around this obstacle. VPNs are a doddle to use and create a private connection between your device and the internet. All the information passing back and forth is entirely encrypted.
There are many VPN providers out there, with some more reliable and safe than others. As a rule, we’d suggest a paid-for service such as ExpressVPN which offers a 100 per cent risk-free money back guarantee. If you’re not happy with the service any time within the first 30-days, then you can cancel with no penalties at all.
Try ExpressVPN risk-free for 30 days ExpressVPN offers a 30-day money back guarantee with its VPN service. You can use it to watch on your mobile, tablet, laptop, TV, games console and more. Going to be away from Canada this weekend? Simply use a VPN to unblock the boxing live streams. Good to know, right? ExpressVPN is a great option because you can try 100 per cent risk-free thanks to their 30-day money-back guarantee.

Sony’s latest gaming console, the PS5, is one of many gaming gadgets that are pretty hard to find in stock right now due to mostly online-only sales. If you are trying to get your hands on one, Best Buy has restocked the PS5 and PS5 digital edition right now, while supplies last.
Similar to today’s Xbox Series X / Series S restocks, the retailer is releasing small waves of PS5 stock right now.

After you secure your PS5, you should consider picking up a few items that will help you get the most out of your next-gen console. I strongly suggest buying a one-year membership to PlayStation Plus and purchasing an extra DualSense controller. A one-year membership to PS Plus also gives you access to the PlayStation Plus Collection, a digital compilation featuring popular games released on the PS4.
If you want to expand your SSD storage, sadly there is no way to do that just yet. But Sony is reportedly expanding the options for more SSD storage sometime this summer.
