64 Audio Volür In-Ear Monitors Review – Flagship Bass!
Source: Tech Power Up added 28th Sep 2023 Packaging & Accessories »
Introduction
64 Audio is one of the most established brands when it comes to in-ear monitors, so much so that it’s IEMs are actually used for monitoring music live on stage by performers including Beyonce, Jay-Z, John Mayer, IU, Bon Jovi, and many, many more. This reputation has also resulted in some of the most popular universal-fit IEMs, or UIEMs, such as the U12t that continues to be a mainstay in the $2000 price range years after release. There’s also the highly resolving co-flagship U18t as well as the more esoteric 64 Audio Duo, but more impressive to me was the hybrid driver set U4s which is one of my top picks for those looking to spend ~$1000 for IEMs. This particular release was also interesting in that many audiophiles were now comparing the U4s, as well as the 64 Audio Nio, with the likes of the all-BA U12t to see whether a dynamic driver-supported bass response could justify losing out on some detail retrieval. Some, as always, wanted it all and the success of the U4s as well as the Nio now being 3+ years in the tooth meant this was a good time for 64 Audio to put out something new to please everyone.
When this review goes live, 64 Audio will have announced its latest IEMs called the Volür—thanks for making me copy-paste it each time, guys! Unlike the Nio with the N8 and U4s with the A4s, there is no CIEM version which came before as a platform to base the UIEM version off. Indeed, the company tells me the Volür has been in the works for years now with the goal of putting out a technological powerhouse to stand alongside its Fourté and U18s flagships in being the new high-driver count hybrid flagship. We get a total of 10 drivers per side here, including what is quite possibly the industry’s first dual dynamic drivers set in a true isobaric configuration, as well as a waveguide dedicated to the novel tia driver that aims to improve higher frequency output in a more meaningful manner than anything done since the tia driver was first developed. Add on other features, including a full Apex module assortment and a linear impedance design, and the Volür is shaping up to be a highly exciting release already. Thanks to 64 Audio for providing a review sample to TechPowerUp as we begin our coverage with a look at the product specifications in the table below.
