Both companies believe that availability issues will continue well into spring or even summer

Both AMD and NVIDIA released a new generation of graphics cards last fall. However, the availability of graphics cards has been at an unprecedentedly low level amid increased demand from the coronary pandemic. Now both companies have shared their views on how the situation will develop in the near future.

According to Lisa Sun, CEO of AMD, current demand simply exceeds global production capacity not only for the semiconductor plants themselves, but also for necessary components such as ABF platforms. However, according to Sun, capacity has been and will continue to be increased, which will also improve its production volume in terms of processors and graphics chips. However, he believes that availability will continue to be poor throughout the first half of the year. The company sells its reference models through its own online store in accordance with recommended prices. In addition, the company has signaled to its partners that it also hopes that their prices will fall

NVIDIA revealed its views on the situation at the CES Tech Investor Forum organized by JP Morgan. Colette Kress, the company’s CFO, was on pretty much the same lines as Sun, saying global demand simply exceeds production capacity. The level of demand is currently so high that Kress does not believe that typical seasonal fluctuations will affect NVIDIA’s results this year in the normal way.

When asked, Kress did not specify which part or parts of the production chain are bottlenecks. However, NVIDIA believes that its graphics card availability will remain weak at least until the end of the company’s first fiscal quarter. NVIDIA’s first financial quarter will end in late April

The conference also revealed an interesting detail in itself about the current distribution of NVIDIA graphics: About 10 percent of the company’s graphics users currently have GeForce RTX series beam-capable video card in use
