AMD buys Xilinx for $ 35 billion

As we know in the press release, AMD and Xilinx have signed an agreement for the acquisition of Xilinx by of AMD worth 35 billion , 5 billion more than what was rumored a few days ago, as a result of this merger, the leading company in high-performance computing will be created, expanding its Xilinx products and customers. The company specialized in manufacturing FPGAs for specific tasks such as computing, networks or aerospace technology and with a presence in sectors with strong growth such as data centers, games, PC, communications, industrial, automotive, aerospace and defense, will become part of AMD that will expand its portfolio of technological solutions in other fields.

With this acquisition AMD intends to position itself as a leader in high performance computing said Dr. Lisa Su, CEO of the AMD company and who will continue in this position after the acquisition. He also commented that with the purchase they will merge their engineering teams to share experience from both companies and create a leading company in the industry with the vision, talent and scale to define the future of high-performance computing . The combination of both companies consists of 13.

engineers and more than 2.7 billion in annual investment for research and development.

AMD will be able to offer a complete set of technological solutions with this acquisition thus competing with NVIDIA that recently acquired ARM and with Intel which also bought Altera some years ago , being Altera a company specialized in manufacturing FPGAs, having manufactured the largest FPGA in the world with 43.300 millions of transistors.
