Just yesterday we mentioned that UL Benchmarks launched a new benchmark to evaluate RayTracing’s performance over the DirectX API 11 , thus using Microsoft’s implementation called DXR.

Today, as we see on AdoredTV, AMD has specified its position regarding support for RayTracing in its Radeon RX 2020 Series , because although for example in graphics cards of NVIDIA is clear when a game supports NVIDIA RTX, in order to have two different implementations on the market it might not be so simple .

AMD’s statement indicates that the company will support all titles that make use of standards that we can find in the industry , such as the API Microsoft DXR and the upcoming RayTracing API for Vulkan , while games that make use of proprietary APIs or extensions will not be supported by AMD, clearly referring to those games designed to work with the NVIDIA RayTracing API.

This means that the titles currently using Microsoft DXR or will use the Vulkan RayTracing API in the future can be played without any kind of problem with new graphics cards AMD Radeon RX 6000 Series , while games that are designed for NVIDIA graphics cards such as Wolfenstein: Youngblood or Quake II RTX will not be able to use RayTracing.
