AMD Introduces Smart Access Memory Technology and Other Radeon RX 6000 Series Optimizations (RDNA2)
Source: IO Tech added 29th Oct 2020Smart Access Memory gives Ryze 5000 series processors access to the memory of the entire Radeon RX 6000 series graphics card, which improves gaming performance.
The new Radeon RX 6000 series graphics cards support the new Smart Access Memory feature when using the Ryze 5000 series processor and 500 series – based motherboard. By default, the processor displays a 256 megabyte slice of video card memory to which the necessary information can be transferred directly by the processor.
Smart Access Memory displays 256 the processor instead of the entire RX 6000 series of graphics cards 16 gigabyte of GDDR6 memory. This is said to improve performance in existing games by 5 – 11 percent without the developers doing anything about it. If developers come to use the technology, the benefits may be even greater in the future.
Not all optimizations are related to graphics chip technology. AMD’s recent video also features a slight tweak in the direction of NVIDIA regarding the physical implementations of graphics cards. In the video, AMD says that it has optimized and designed the entire platform as a whole and taking into account existing enclosures. It praises the new Radeon graphics cards as not only cooler, but also clearly smaller than the competitor’s innovations, which improves their compatibility with different enclosures.
RX 6000 series graphics cards are 10, 5-inch 473 millimeters and 2 / 2.5-card-high, which has been considered almost standard for high-end graphics cards. AMD would also complain that the graphics connectors are located at the top of the back of the graphics card for easy cable management when a competitor has a non-standard connector in a more difficult location for cable management with a relatively ugly adapter cable.
According to AMD, the configuration of the three axial fans keeps the graphics cards quiet in game use and the audio output will only rise to about 37 decibels. According to today’s standards, the fans also support the so-called Zero RPM mode, which means that it stops the fans when the temperature of the graphics circuit is low enough. The company also states that it has cooperated with, among others, EKWB in liquid cooling solutions for new display monitors
