Introduction and IPC Gain The embargo has expired, and the reviews of AMD’s Ryzen are now 5000 generation of processors within. When announcing the chips, AMD made big claims about what its Zen 3 architecture could achieve. The big question is of course: will those promises also be fulfilled?
Performance per core in particular was a focus at the introduction, with AMD said 19 Percent Better instructions per clock (ipc) to have realized opposite the Ryzen 3000 processors. Our colleagues at Tweakers tested this by fixing the clock frequency of a Ryzen 9 5900 X and a few other CPUs on 2.4 GHz and the single-thread test of Cinebench R 17 to turn. In that scenario, the 5900 X turned out to be approximately 17 percent faster than the Ryzen 9 3900 Previous generation XT.

AnandTech did a similar test, but fixed the frequency at 4 GHz. This measurement also consists of several different benchmarks. The results here nicely reflect the AMD mentioned 19 percent against Zen 2 – and show that Zen 3 is a whopping 250 Percent Faster Than Original Zen Architecture 2017 . Quite a difference in three and a half years.
