AMD has introduced the processor series Ryzen Embedded V 2000 with code name Gray Hawk, which the now 2.5 years old Ryzen-Embedded-V 1000 – replaces CPUs. This enables a change from Zen (1) with Globalfoundries’ – Nanometer technology on Zen 2 with TSMCs 7 nm structures. A doubling of the CPU cores, new architecture and high-clocking Vega graphics units promise a significant leap in performance.

The Ryzen Embedded V 2000 are similar to the Ryzen notebook combination processors 4000 U / H (Renoir) strong and should use the same silicon. When it comes to embedded CPUs, however, AMD is focusing on the industry, including with Memory Guard including ECC error correction and Secure Boot. In addition, AMD promises ten years of availability for long-term partnerships.

Manufacturers use corresponding processors, for example, in gaming machines, video walls (digital signage) and generally in embedded systems. The predecessor Ryzen Embedded V 1000 is also used in mini PCs such as the Asrock 4X4 Box-V 448 M, the EEPD EM Pro mini and on the mainboard Udoo Bolt for Use.

Eight fast CPU cores The top model Ryzen Embedded V 2748 uses eight CPU cores including simultaneous multithreading (16 threads) and works with 2.9 to 4, 25 GHz with a configurable Thermal Design Power (cTDP) of 35 to 54 watt. Seven compute units (60 shader cores) reach up to 1600 MHz. The Ryzen Embedded V 2748 corresponds almost exactly to the mobile Ryzen 7 4800 H.

Below that, AMD positions the Ryzen embedded processors V 2546, V 2718 and V 2516. The last digit stands for the number of CPU cores, the penultimate for the standard TDP of 15 or 45 Watts. The Ryzen Embedded V 2718 largely represents a Ryzen Embedded V 2748, just with a 1.2 GHz lower base clock due to the lower TDP.

DDR4 – 3200 and HDMI 2.1 All models support DDR4 3200 RAM in dual-channel including ECC error correction and are soldered to mainboards. DisplayPort 1.4 and HDMI 2.1 are available as display outputs – four of them can be connected at the same time. The transfer rate is also sufficient for 8K screens with 7680 × 4320 Pixels and 60 Hertz. Additional chips and cards can be purchased via 20 PCI-Express Connect 3.0 lanes.

First systems with Ryzen Embedded V 2000 should come from ASRock Industrial, Advantech and Simply NUC. Sapphire is updating the current V 448 motherboards (4×4 and 5×5 formats) with the new processors that Simply NUC installed in mini-PCs. With the cExpress-AR, Adlink has announced a COM Express Compact Size Type 6 Module for COM Express base boards.
