AMD shows chic renderings of the Mercedes-AMG F1 W11 EQ Performance
Source: Hardware Luxx added 17th Dec 2020AMD is one of the sponsors of the world championship team Mercedes-AMG Petronas in Formula 1. The technical support in the area of sponsorship refers to resources for supercomputing, simulation , PC and data center hardware.
But potentially fast computing hardware is not only necessary from a technical point of view, but also for marketing. Not all pictures and videos of the racing cars that are used for advertising are real recordings. Much comes from virtual representations. The Pixelary in collaboration with AMD is now showing what this could look like. Here a 3D model of the Mercedes-AMG F1 W 11 EQ Performance has been created and calculated by Radeon ProRender.
In order to get the most realistic representation possible, the 3D model was received from Mercedes-AMG Petronas, which was certainly not easy due to the sensitivity of the data, after all the team won’t want to give such data out of hand. The finished model consisted of 5 million polygons and used numerous 8K textures.
Version 2 of the ProRenderer for Blender was used for rendering. The Vulkan API-based Radeon ProRender supports, among other things, the “Full Spectrum Rendering Viewport”. Raytracing calculations were carried out using hardware acceleration.
On a Radeon RX 6900 XT rendering a scene takes 516 s, on a Radeon VII it should be 1. 065 s. Thanks to its multi-GPU support, the Radeon ProRender 2.0 would enable rendering times to be reduced even further. In addition, the ProRender 2.0 can work on the processor as well as on the graphics card.
Some of the renderings are offered by AMD as wallpapers. These are in the resolutions of 1. 920 x 1. 080, 2. 560 x 1. 440, 3. 840 x 2. 160 and the ultrawide aspect ratios in 3. 440 x 1. 440, 3. 840 x 1. 600 and 5. 120 x 2. 160 to disposal.
