As we wrote recently, some third party manufacturers are starting to make lenses for Nikon Z. Among them the latest model announced is the Viltrox AF 85 mm F1.8 for Nikon Z which promises to be cheap, good quality and best support the new mirrorless cameras of the Japanese manufacturer (also thanks to the compatibility with the autofocus).
The technical characteristics of the Viltrox AF 85 mm F1.8 for Nikon Z
The new Viltrox AF 85 mm F1.8 for Nikon Z has an optical design which provides 10 elements divided into 7 groups (there is an ED lens and a multilayer coating to improve re the overall quality of the shots). The aperture has 9 blades, a maximum aperture of f / 1.8 and a minimum aperture of f / 16 while the minimum focus distance is 80 cm.
The structure is made of metal to give greater sense of solidity to the goal. In the contact area (useful for focusing and for transferring EXIF information) there is also a microUSB port to be able to update the firmware simply.
A lens with these characteristics is usually designed for portraiture allowing a good bokeh effect also combining portability and low cost (compared to lenses f / 1.4 or f / 1.2 for example). Moreover, thanks to the fact that it is not “a basic lens” with manual focus only, the user can also take advantage of eye-AF.
The overall dimensions of the new Viltrox AF 85 mm F1.8 for Nikon Z are equal to 80 x 92 mm with a weight of 540 grams and are supported front filters of 72 mm. Currently this model does not appear on the Chinese manufacturer’s international website or on Amazon Italy, but it is likely that the situation will change later. The price in the USA, where it is currently available, is 399 dollars .
