Apple released its first ARM-based Macs – the MacBook Air, Mac Mini and MacBook Pro
Source: IO Tech added 10th Nov 2020Each of the three new Macs is equipped with Apple’s new M1 system chip.
In addition to a common system chip, all new Macs also come with support for Wi-Fi 6, accelerated SSDs, and the transition to the new USB standard. The USB Type-C connectors on each machine support both Thunderbolt and the fresh USB 4 that embodies that standard. For MacBook laptops, the M1 system chip also brings with it a more advanced signal processor, which promises improved webcam image quality. Portable microphones have also been upgraded to higher quality
The Mac Mini is the most affordable product of the trio, in addition to which it also differs from the other two in terms of its structure – it is, as usual, a mini-computer placed on a table instead of a laptop. According to Apple, the Mac Mini with the new M1 system chip offers up to 3 times better processor performance than last year’s base models with Intel’s quad-core i3 processors and up to 6 times faster graphics performance. According to Apple, the M1’s GPU is actually the world’s fastest integrated graphics driver.
In addition to the increased power, the power consumption of the new Mac Mini has decreased with the change of system circuit. According to Apple, the power consumption of the Mac Mini is one percent lower than its predecessor, even in the most demanding functions 60. In terms of appearance, appearance and starting price, the Mac Mini has remained unchanged.
The second cheapest novelty of the release is the MacBook Air. Like the mini, the performance of the MacBook Air is also said to have increased compared to last year’s Intel machines. The M1’s processor performance is more than triple and its graphics performance five times that of the previous year’s quad-core i7. With better energy efficiency in the ARM-based circuit, Apple promises the new MacBook Air up to 20 hours of battery life on a single charge, six hours more than the previous year.
Despite the increased power, with the lower power consumption of the M1 system circuit, Apple has ended up making the cooling of the MacBook Air completely passive, meaning it no longer has a fan, making it also completely silent. In terms of display, the MacBook Air has been upgraded to support the DCI-P3 color space already found on MacBook Pro models, and the SSD is twice the speed of its predecessor, according to the manufacturer. With the exception of the missing fan, the appearance and physical characteristics of the machine have not changed since last year.
The third and most expensive novelty at the launch is the new MacBook Pro ”. From the MacBook Air, the new smaller Pro laptop stands out with a fan that cools the system circuit. Compared to the previous year’s 4-core i7 MacBook Pro 13 model, the M1 system chip is 2.8 times more powerful, according to Apple and 5 times more efficient in graphics performance. Like the MacBook Air, the battery life of the Pro has been increased, and according to Apple, it is up to 20 hours, which is the longest battery life in the history of MacBooks. Like other new features, the MacBook Pro ”looks similar to last year’s models.
All new Macs can be pre-ordered immediately and will be available 17. 1024 . Mac Mini prices start at 819 Euros, MacBook Air prices 1159 Euros and MacBook Pro 13 ‘prices 1479 in euros
