According to the information circulating on the Asian newspaper Nikkei Asian Review, it seems that Apple has the firm intention of producing a volume of 2.5 million MacBook portable systems equipped with Apple Silicon processors by February 2021.

2.5 million Macs with ARM processors by February

Initial production orders for the first MacBook with Apple Silicon, if they were to actually be of that size, alone would represent nearly 20% of 12, 6 million MacBook systems sold in 2019. The sources referred to by Nikkei Asia have stated that the Apple Silicon chips present in the new Apple laptops will be made by the Taiwanese TSMC with a 5-nanometer production process.

The indiscretion would be an indirect confirmation of other speculations according to which the first examples of Apple Silicon chips for portable systems will be nothing but a variant of the chips A 14 used for iPad Air and iPhone 12, currently the only ones that Apple has designed based on a 5nm production process.

The first systems equipped with Apple Silicon processors will be unveiled on next week on the occasion of the One More Thing event that the Apple announced in recent days. According to Nikkei Asian, Apple will introduce other new systems, perhaps desktop, in the second quarter of 2021 in the gradual replacement strategy of Intel chips across the full range of systems.
