Aqua Computer is also working on a water-cooled backplate
Source: Hardware Luxx added 14th Jan 2021As part of the EK EXPO, EK Water Blocks also showed current plans to bring water coolers onto the market which, in addition to the front of the graphics card, also actively cool the back using a water cooling circuit. In the comments we were pointed out that EKWB is of course not the first manufacturer to come up with such an idea – not even with the water coolers.
At the turn of the year, Aqua Computer showed the kryographics NEXT for the FTW3 variant of the GeForce RTX 3080 and GeForce RTX 3090 from EVGA. However, these are only concept studies, the feasibility of which is to be explored. One of the two variants consists of a completely closed aluminum housing. Due to the more material, such a cooler would be around 40 euros more expensive than a variant with separate front and backplate.
In both cases Here, too, water is fed through the backplate, so that cooling of the memory chips (as provided on the back of the GeForce RTX 3090) is guaranteed. If the front and backplate are separate, the cooler should also work without the actively cooled backplate. Corresponding locks are provided on the terminal for this purpose.
Aqua Computer already offers actively cooled backplates for some water coolers. However, the water is not fed through the backplate in an additional circuit, but Aqua Computer installs a cooler, which is connected to the rest of the cooler by means of a heat pipe.
Whether it’s the Aqua concept Computer creates a product is currently just as in the stars as the appearance of a similar solution at EK Water Blocks. Further steps in the development can be found in the forum post at Aqua Computer.
