ARD and ZDF say they are expanding their educational offer against the background of the current school closings. The education channel ARD-alpha is responding to the lockdown and closings and will be broadcasting learning formats for all types of schools and subject groups from next Monday on weekdays between 9 a.m. and 12 under the title “Schule daheim” an ARD spokeswoman on Wednesday. In addition, from Monday there will be “special programming” on all platforms of the children’s channel of ARD and ZDF (KiKA) for a total of three weeks.

According to a spokeswoman, the ZDF has already “considerably increased” its offer under the title “Terra X plus School” in the ZDF media library and on the corresponding YouTube channel. As a spokeswoman for the dpa announced on request, new explanatory videos from the subjects of geography, biology, chemistry and physics are added every week. The offer in the media library is supplemented by documentation, videos and contributions for unrestricted use, sorted according to school subjects.

On Twitter, several users referred to an offer from the public service BBC in Great Britain. This had announced that because of the lockdown, a school program would be shown on television for several hours a day. “Such a school television would also be a useful support for parents and children who pay radio fees in homeschooling,” tweeted for example left-wing parliamentary group leader Dietmar Bartsch.
