ASUS improved ROG-Strix and TUF-RTX-30 series BIOS
Source: Hardware Luxx added 21st Dec 2020ASUS has released a number of BIOS updates for its various graphics card series in the past few days. With these updates, the manufacturer addresses various problems with the cards. This also includes a further improvement to the 0 dB fan mode, in which the fans should stand still.
ASUS describes the improvements across all models:
- Further optimize the performance for 0dB fan feature
- Fixed motherboard “beeping” bug during computer start-up
Whether and which thresholds ASUS have now selected for the 0 dB fan mode or what changes have been made is not known. The second point apparently fixes unintended beeps during the boot process. The BIOS update version V1 and version 2 for the different models of the GeForce RTX – 30 – series is available via the support option, which is available via the respective product page can be called up.
At this point a note on the previous tests of the ROG Strix and TUF gaming cards:
- ASUS ROG Strix GeForce RTX 3090 OC
- ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 3080 OC
- ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 3070 OC
- ASUS TUF GeForce RTX 3060 Ti OC
ASUS had in the Already past problems and improved accordingly. As part of the TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 3080 OC test, the 0 dB fan mode was already noticed negatively because it was coupled to a certain idle power consumption and the The threshold was so low that this threshold was exceeded on high-resolution monitors or multi-monitor systems and the fans continued to turn. As a result, ASUS raised the threshold. But there have been reports of a non-functioning 0 dB fan mode or fans starting too late or too early.
There was and still is the problem that some models did not reach their specifications regarding the power limit. This was also a well-known phenomenon, especially with the ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 3080 OC. It is not known whether ASUS has made any changes here as well.
