ASUS Tinker Board 2 and Tinker Board 2S – alternatives to the Raspberry Pi
Source: Pure PC added 23rd Nov 2020If you want to create a minicomputer, you do not have to limit yourself to the choice of Raspberry Pi devices. There are new proposals from ASUS on the market. I am talking about the second generation Tinker Board design in two variants – ASUS Tinker Board 2 and ASUS Tinker Board 2S. Measuring 56 x 85 mm boards are equipped with a Rockchip RK processor 3399 which is a 4-core system based on two Cortex-A cores 72 and two Cortex-A cores 53. The ARM Mali-T 860 MP4 is responsible for the graphics. Both models are also available in two variants of operating memory, i.e. with 2 or 4 GB of RAM. The version with the note S differs mainly in that it offers 12 GB of eMMC memory for data .
ASUS Tinker Board 2 and Tinker Board 2S are two new mini-computers with prices and availability not yet announced. We must rely on the specifications and suggestions that the models will appear in stores at the beginning of 2021 of the year.

Cheaper version – ASUS Tinker Board 2 – did not receive the standard memory for data, but both models are equipped with a slot for microSD cards. The connection of additional external data carriers is possible via three USB 3.2 ports, which only support Gen 1. The display is connected via HDMI 2.0, USB type C (DisplayPort 2.1) or MIPI-DSI interface. There is also a MIPI-CSI-2 port for the camera. Wi-Fi could not be missing 802. 11 c, Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity, 40 – pin GPIO interface and Gigabit Ethernet (RJ 45).
CPU and GPU performance results in the first and second generation ASUS Tinker Board.
Raspberry Pi 4 B – New model with 8 GB of RAM LPDDR4
Initially, you will be able to install Debian 9 on “CDs”, and later also Android 10. For now, both the price and availability remain unknown, although some indications suggest that minicomputers will appear on store shelves in the first quarter 2021 of the year (As per ASUS plans for Android 10). It is worth knowing that compared to the first generation of devices, we get a new processor, more RAM (4 GB version), USB-C connector and new versions of WiFi (5) and Bluetooth (5.0).
