Auto summit brings 3 billion euros in funding on the way
Source: Heise.de added 20th Nov 2020At the next big auto summit on Tuesday evening, points were tied down that could be agreed on relatively quickly. Obviously, it was important that instead of vague plans there was actually something to announce this time. And so at a top-level discussion between Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) and industry representatives, the remarkable sum of 3 billion euros was put on the table, which manufacturers and suppliers can expect. The industry and IG Metall welcomed this and are urging rapid implementation.
The political actors were also satisfied . SPD boss Norbert Walter-Borjans told the dpa that the decisive factor now is that the trend towards “clean drives” does not break off because of the expansion of the infrastructure do not follow. Charging stations, simple payment systems and the promotion of industrial innovation should be “much better off”. The expectation of the industry is now: “Qualify employees for the new era and not cut them”. Right now the good training, experience and creativity of the employees are needed.
The President of the Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA), Hildegard Müller, welcomed the further commitments as an “important contribution” and help for climate protection and Economic power. “Every week we bring 12. 000 new e-cars on the Streets in Germany. ”These would now also need many new e-charging stations. IG Metall boss Jörg Hofmann highlighted the exchange program for heavy commercial vehicles to support the economy. The tense employment situation, especially at many suppliers, makes a quick implementation of the measures necessary.
The Prime Minister of Lower Saxony, Stephan Weil (SPD), said: “The sooner a nationwide charging network is created and fed from renewable energies, the more customers will choose electric vehicles.” The plans for this are encouraging. But you have to do it now. The commitments at the “Auto Summit” at a glance.
Extension of the purchase incentives for e-cars In order to get more e-cars on the road, the existing purchase bonus (environmental bonus) had already been increased significantly via an “innovation bonus” – sales figures have been increasing since then. This means that car buyers can receive a subsidy of up to 4629 euros. In return, the federal government doubled its share of the bonus, half of which is actually paid by manufacturers. This increased premium was initially planned until the end of 2021 and is now to end 2025 to run.
The most important e-cars (48 Photos) Audi e-tron (Sportback) Top performance 230 – 265 kW
continuous output 100 kW
gross battery capacity 71 – 95 kWh
max. Charging power direct current 100 kW
direct current 45 Minutes
Range (WLTP) 336 to 436 km (Sportback: 347 – 446)
Power consumption (NEDC combined) 22, 4 to 26, 6 kWh (Sportback: 21, 6 – 26, 3)
Maximum speed: 190 (e-tron 50) or. 200 km / h (e-tron 55)
Trunk volume: 660 to 1725 liters (Sportback: 615 to 1665)
The federal government gives up to to an additional billion euros. That would theoretically be enough to get good 166. 000 to promote e-cars. But of course plug-in hybrids continue to get their share. Environmentalists take a critical view of this, as these are often driven primarily as combustion engines. As the federal government decided, hybrids should in future only be subsidized “if they are from 2022 an electrical minimum range of 55 km, from 2025 of at least 80 km “.
Expansion of the charging infrastructure There should also be more fast charging points at petrol stations. The goal of the federal government: By the end 2022 fast charging infrastructure at one of four petrol stations , until the end 2024 at every second and until the end 2026 at three out of four petrol stations. They want to talk to the industry about a voluntary commitment and pay subsidies by the end 2022, it says in the paper. If it doesn’t go fast, it will be regulated by law.
At the destination of 72. 000 The government is holding onto public charging points, currently according to the BDEW energy association it is good 33. 000. The resolution paper says: “The Federal Government expects the automotive industry to do so by the end of 2021 a significant contribution from the promised 12 000 publicly accessible charging points. ”
Funding for truck swap A truck scrapping bonus is intended to get old commercial vehicles off the road and boost sales of current models. The billion that the federal government gives for this is to be divided up: 446 Millions of euros for companies that swap trucks complying with the Euro 3, 4 and 5 emission standards for trucks complying with the new Euro 6 standard, and others 500 Millions of euros for public procurement, such as the replacement of old fire engines.
This is criticized because diesel is also promoted. Federal Environment Agency President Dirk Messner warned that the premium is actually harmful to climate protection, because if you buy a new diesel truck now, you don’t switch to an electric truck shortly afterwards. Even if theoretically all trucks of the older emissions standards 3 to 5 were replaced by those of the current emissions standard, this would save only 0.7 million tons of CO2 per year. The emissions standard has no direct influence on consumption, but all those involved assume that a modern truck consumes less than its predecessor.
Funding for change For medium- and long-term plans, there should be a “Future Fund for the Automotive Industry” from funding, into which the federal government wants to deposit one billion euros. The aim is a “strategic structural policy orientation” for Germany, but also strategies for change, especially in the regions with a particularly large number of companies in the automotive industry in paper. The federal government will set up an “expert committee that is as representative as possible” to advise the government on the allocation of funds.
