Bitcoin

It took three years, but Bitcoin managed to break the previous all-time high and for the first time cross the 20. 000 dollars : when we publish the news, the value of a single bitcoin is around 20. 500 dolla ri, after a push up to 20. 800 dollars. The previous maximum was reached exactly three years ago, the 15 December of 2017: for reference, the Bitstamp exchange then marked 19. 666 dollars.

Since reaching the previous maximum Bitcoin, and in general the whole cryptocurrency market, has experienced three years of purgatory with a drop that led to the total crypto market capitalization passing from 830 Billion dollars at the end 2017 a little more than 100 billions of dollars a year later.

Since then a recovery, which however broke in the middle of 2019 to fall back to previous lows during the month of March of this year. This is where the real ride began, which saw Bitcoin head with conviction up to the previous highs, and then arrive today, 16 December 2020, to mark a new record.

Bitcoin breaks the highs after three years and sets a new record

A ride of approximately 16 thousand dollars in just 9 months , first corroborated by the halving, which took place last 11 May 2020, and in the most recent weeks since the opening of PayPal to cryptocurrencies. The payment giant has allowed them on its platform by making cryptocurrency operations and payments available, initially only to US customers but with plans to expand to other markets in the coming months.

And now the value of Bitcoin is preparing to navigate in unexplored territories, at a time when even the world of institutional finance has turned its attention to cryptocurrencies. Above all, the opinion of Ray Dalio , founder of the hedge fund Bridgewater Association, who in recent days in a along Ask Me Anything on Reddit commented: “Bitcoin could represent a diversification asset relative to gold and other similar assets.” This is a quite significant change of opinion, when only a few weeks ago Dalio himself expressed, in a Tweetstorm, a certain perplexity towards Bitcoin.
