BMW: Android Auto soon available on 750,000 cars

Finally the vehicles BMW will equip themselves with the support for Android Auto , software Google that allows you to extend the functionality of mobile devices by integrating with the infotainment system in the dashboard of the car obile. The update, distributed via OTA , is part of the latest version of the BMW Operating System 7 and concerns the largest vehicle fleet ever affected by an update in Europe.

The owners of the 750 thousand vehicles involved will receive a notification through their car or through the app associated with it, with which they will be notified of the availability of the update. Which will be released in batches starting today, coming first to German BMW customers .

Operating System 7 debuted in 2018 with the BMW X5 and, with the latest version, introduces many new features, beyond support for Android Auto. Among the new features, improvements to the company’s proprietary voice recognition software, namely Personal Assistant , and the new functionality eDrive Zones , which automatically sets electric mobility when the vehicle plug-in hybrid enters low emission zones.

The installation files are prepared in the vehicle in the background, after the download which takes place via the data SIM integrated in the vehicle, and the procedure is completed in approximately 20 minutes . There are over 20 the models that will receive this update, while the cars produced from July 2020 onwards are exempted from the update, including it already at the time of leaving the factory.
