There is a lot of anticipation on the presentation of BMW iNext , the new SUV electric of the Bavarian house already defined as the “answer to Tesla” . It represents the culmination of a work that began a long time ago, and follows the commercialization of another fully electric vehicle from the house, BMW i3 , with fifth generation eDrive technology . The iNext project was anticipated for the first time even in 2018.
BMW iNext, Tesla Model Y’s new rival electric SUV
Meanwhile, BMW also launched the Mini Cooper SE Electric and the compact electric SUV BMW iX3 , two vehicles that however have different compromises and they are configured as completely different projects compared to iNext. In particular, the former is not equipped with the latest generation BMW electric propulsion technology, while the BMW iX3 equips a battery pack of 74 kWh, which guarantees “only” 320 kilometers of range, considered insufficient for the marketing of the vehicle in the USA.
BMW iNext, from first images , it seems to be characterized by generous dimensions, which would position it as a direct rival of Tesla Model Y . ?? The #NEXTGen event 2020 is split into various online formats. Everything kicks off with the “Chasing iNEXT” series which was made in the style of streaming services “ reads a note from the manufacturer . “We will follow all research departments involved in BMW iNEXT, whose final design will be revealed for the first time at 14: 00 (CET) the 11 November on bmw.com/NEXTGen”. BMW refers to six episodes edited with an eye-catching style in which some well-known names from the world of Hollywood participated, including Oscar winner Hans Zimmer .
Not much is known about iNext’s capabilities yet, but BMW executives have previously talked about a range of 435 miles, approx. 700 kilometres, for performance therefore clearly superior to previous attempts by the Bavarian house. The BMW iNEXT is expected to go into production at the BMW plant in Dingolfing in 2021.
