Source: Heise.de added 23rd Nov 2020On European coasts 300 gigawatts of wind energy are to be captured The EU Commission has presented a strategy to generate clean electricity on and from European seas on the way to 2050 to become climate neutral. Europe’s capacity to convert wind power into electricity at sea will increase from currently 12 gigawatts to 300 gigawatts will be expanded. On top of that, 40 gigawatts of electricity will be generated from ocean energy and from floating wind and solar systems. The EU Commission estimates that a total of 800 billions of euros would have to be invested. The Commission defines ocean energy as wave or tidal power plants or the use of algae to produce biofuels. European companies and laboratories are currently in the lead here, according to the EU strategy. The development of less mature technology is to be promoted with research funds.
