Britain wants to move forward with a ban on fossil fuel cars
Source: Heise.de added 20th Nov 2020After the general ban on the sale of cars and vans with combustion engines from 2040, which was decided a little over three years ago, London now wants to bring the limit forward by ten years: from on, the sale of new vehicles with diesel and gasoline engines in Great Britain is to be prohibited. The sale of cars with hybrid drives should remain allowed until 2035.
At the same time, 1.3 billion pounds are to be distributed for the charging infrastructure and just under 250 million in purchase premiums for less environmentally harmful electric cars. Prime Minister Boris Johnson wants to use these measures to promote the British electric car industry.
Climate neutral without EU These measures are essential parts of a ten -Points plan, which provides for up to 2030 twelve billion pounds (about 13, 4 billion euros) to invest in so-called green projects. The aim is for the country to become climate-neutral within the next three decades after leaving the EU.
Another focus of the plan, which is indirectly related to the promotion of electric mobility, is the expansion of offshore wind farms. Because only if the electricity for the cars comes from CO2-neutral generation, a decarbonization of the transport sector is possible.
In various industries up to 250. 000 “green” jobs are created. At the same time, the south-north divide in living standards in the United Kingdom is to be combated.
