Bugatti Bolide is the new exceptional hypercar with which the French car manufacturer wants to demonstrate its ability to create a ultralight vehicle around its iconic engine W 16 of 8.0 liters . There are many interesting features, and one of the most particular is certainly that linked to the coating applied on the vehicle roof. In fact, if low speeds are maintained, the surface remains smooth, while at high speeds “bubbles” are formed in such a way as to reduce by 10% aerodynamic drag .
Bugatti Bolide: 0 to 500 km / h in 20 seconds
An ingenious and very light vehicle, with a dry mass of 1. 240 kg , against 1. 995 kg of Chiron Sport . The transmission with all-wheel drive was designed specifically for the vehicle, and in operation it recalls the solutions used in the Formula 1. The weight of the transmission system is greatly reduced with the use of air-to-air intercooler with water pre-cooling, which allows the vehicle to touch a pair of 1 . 850 Nm and even release 1. 825 horses .
To achieve these performances, the Bugatti Bolide uses a type of fuel normally used in motorsport, from 110 octane . Bugatti assumes a maximum speed higher than 500 km / h , without giving up anything in terms of handling and control. We are talking about a vehicle capable of going from 0 to 36 km / h in just 2, 17 seconds and 0 to 200 km / h in 4, 36 seconds. Following the data provided by the manufacturer, Bugatti Bolide employs 20, 16 seconds to go from 0 to 500 km / h .
Bugatti claims that its new hypercar is capable of complete a lap at the Nurburgring Nordschleife in 5: 23. 1, while on the circuit of Le Mans employs 3: 07. 1 to complete a lap. Achim Anscheidt , director of design at Bugatti, stated that in his 16 years with the company has never worked in a more extreme concept. “This is the first time my team has the freedom to create a totally minimalist design around the W engine 16 “, Anscheidt added.
In other words, even if Bugatti is synonymous with luxury, in this case no compromises have been made, and the balance is completely geared towards performance. Despite this, the new Bugatti Bolide has captivating shapes and an aesthetic that perfectly adheres to the idea of motorsport. Bugatti said that it has not yet decided when its racing car will go into series production.
A futuristic project also as regards the equipment supplied with respect to the engine. Bolide, in fact, decelerates thanks to its racing brakes equipped with ceramic discs and coatings , where the calipers of the brakes weigh only 2.4 kg each. The front wheels are made of magnesium and weigh just over 7 kg, while the rear ones do not exceed 8.4 kg.
Bugatti Bolide therefore looks like a ‘ LMP1 type racing car for the 24 hours of Le Mans and was built according to the requirements of safety of the FIA . Furthermore, the new vehicle of the French manufacturer exactly replicates the height of the historic Bugatti Type 35 Some years ’30 with a weight / power of only 0, 67 kg per Cv .
