Across all brands and segments, the sales figures fell by an average in the past year 19, 1 percent back. A total of 2.9 million cars 2019 were registered in Germany for the first time. 62 , 8 percent of this was for commercial registrations, the rest went to private new car buyers, such as the Federal Motor Transport Authority on Friday (January 8th 2021).

The manufacturers survived the year with varying degrees of difficulty, with Fiat and Tesla being two providers who their sales figures compared to 2019 could even increase. Fiat grew by 0.2 percent, Tesla by strong 55, 9. DS, Jeep, Lexus and Renault also slipped through comparatively well – they had only minor losses. It hit Smart, Suzuki, Ssangyong, Mazda and Dacia really hard, all of them more than 35 percent fewer cars were sold than in the previous year.

But at least some manufacturers can hope, because the sales figures have recently picked up again. Companies like Alfa Romeo, Fiat, Jaguar, Opel, Porsche, Toyota, Seat and Skoda were able to increase their sales figures in December 2020 partly by significantly more than 30 Increase percent.

Special case Tesla Tesla remains a special case. 16. 694 Cars were 2020 newly registered, in December alone it was 3545. Compared to the same month of the previous year, this corresponds to an increase of 206 percent . The soaring is unlikely to be slowed down 2021, especially if it should succeed in the production of the Model Y in the to call at Grünheide in Brandenburg. The 4 is in the configurator, 71 m long SUV currently with 58. 620 Euro – including one very neat equipment. The base price is likely to fall, because initially Tesla only has the two most expensive versions on offer.

The June 2020 another increased innovation bonus and the tax preferential treatment of cars with an electric part of the drive have left their mark on the car market. It could have been a lot more if automakers had been able to fulfill every wish for an electric car or plug-in hybrids. That was not always the case: Volkswagen is no longer accepting orders for the electrified microcars, while Mercedes has had to stop orders for the plug-in hybrid A-Class 250 impose.

A winner: plug-in hybrids It may be doubted whether a plug-in hybrid has in any case led to a lower environmental impact from individual traffic . The power consumption of some plug-in hybrids is downright terrifying – if they are even charged by the user. Still, plug-in hybrids were one of last year’s winners. Of the 527.864 newly registered hybrid vehicles were 200. 469 Plug-in hybrids, which is a plus of 250, 1 percent compared to the previous year.

Not surprisingly, electric cars have also grown strongly. 194. 163 were sold, a plus of 206, 8 percent. Other alternatives to gasoline and diesel fuel, such as natural gas and liquefied petroleum gas, at least managed to hold up, albeit at a very low level. However, following Volkswagen’s announced withdrawal from natural gas, these will disappear from the market in the medium term.

CO2 decrease The CO2 emissions from cars were 2020 by 11 Percent further back, on average to 139, 8 g / km. 2019 this number was still at 157 g / km. At first glance, that sounds like a big step, but it is by no means the case. Electric cars are included in these statistics with zero grams of CO2; plug-in hybrids benefit from a fairly industry-friendly calculation of their CO2 share. The decrease in emissions is therefore likely largely due to the growth in electrified cars.
