Cartel Office makes decision on eBay classifieds sale
Source: Hardware Luxx added 25th Nov 2020Back in July 2020 we reported that the Norwegian company Adevint would take over the classifieds business from eBay. Before the sale was perfect, however, the Federal Cartel Office had to approve it. As the President of the Cartel Office, Andreas Mundt, has now announced, the Cartel Office has no objections to the planned takeover. Thus eBay gets the green light and can sell its classified ads platform to Adevint.
According to the President, the acquisition of KA would ensure that both classifieds and Shpock would be managed by the Norwegian company, but competition on the portals mentioned would be there because you are here would also compete with Facebook Marketplace and other portals.
What plans Adevint in Future is unknown to date. So far, both private and commercial providers have been able to register free of charge on the eBay classifieds portal and offer their goods and services. Only additional services are currently chargeable. This includes, among other things, better visibility when searching.
However, a large number of fraudsters hang around on the platform. In addition to sellers who have items paid for and then run away, there are also data collectors who try in dubious ways to get address and account data. These are then used to register domains or the like, for example.
