CES 2021: New Netgear Mobile Routers Arrive with 5G Support
Source: Geeknetic added 11th Jan 2021Netgear has launched today several routers like the one we have seen previously, with compatibility for WiFi 6E , but it has also launched three other models that are compatible with SIM cards to provide us with connectivity from mobile data.
On the one hand, we have the Netgear Nighthawk M5 , a 5G compatible router that comes in a very small size, so that we can place it practically anywhere. Its connectivity, quite limited, is comprised of a USB-C port to charge its battery with 13 hours of autonomy and an Ethernet port , which in any case are enough to provide us with connectivity in remote areas or simply far from a fixed internet line.
It has a screen where we can see, for example, the consumption of mobile data, as well as other parameters or the configuration of the own modem. The Netgear Nighthawk M5 will arrive at a price of 799 euros to Europe.
On the other hand, the Netgear Nighthawk 4G LTE WiFi 6 Router LAX 20 has a larger size as it is also designed to be placed in homes, offices, or simply any receptacle that has electrical power, but does not have a fixed internet line, for which it is allowed use a SIM card from which we can use 4G coverage.
This time we do find a router capable of working from a wired connection thanks to its WAN port , but the slot for a NanoSIM it is a great addition in cases where the fixed network is unstable or non-existent . Among the rest of the specifications, we have 4 GbE ports, a USB 2.0 port and support for advanced features such as WPA3 or VPN, all at a price of 329 euros.
Finally we have the Netgear 4G LTE Modem LM 1200 , a small modem with a design similar to that of the Nighthawk M5 but again with limited connectivity to 4G , something that provides lower speeds, but in return we are left with a much lower price of 149 dollars – because I do not know has announced its availability in Europe -.
Compared to the M5, we also lose the screen to see mobile data consumption, but this time we still have a USB-C port, a LAN port to connect to the modem, and a WAN port in case we find a fixed network to connect to and use the modem as a WiFi access point.
