In the run-up to the virtual CES 2021 Dell has a range of new business monitors announced, including the upper-class model UltraSharp U 4021 QW. As the third display, it shows the highest 10: 9 resolution of 5120 × 2160 pixels – as the first of the three monitors on a diagonal of rounded 40 Inch (39,7 inch).

A factory-calibrated IPS panel is used, which should have a maximum Delta-E color deviation of 2 in sRGB mode. The latter color space is completely covered by the UltraSharp U 4021 QW, DCI-P3 to 98 percent. The display shows 1, 07 billions of colors, but Dell does not reveal whether this is a real 10 – Bit processing per color channel or Frame Rate Control (FRC) occurs.

The refresh rate is 60 Hertz, the brightness at 300 cd / m² and the contrast for IPS-typical 1000:1. With a response time of 5 ms at normal overdrive setting, the monitor is one of the rather slow representatives of its kind.

Thunderbolt 3 docking station The UltraSharp U 3840 QW comes with numerous connections to use it as a docking station – for example a NoteBook or MacBook with a Thunderbolt 3 port. The latter can be used to transmit DisplayPort 1.4 image signals and data, and the monitor can also transmit a connected device with up to 90 Load watts.

Dell UltraSharp U 4021 QW (4 pictures) (Image: Dell) Also on board: six USB 3.2 Gen 2 (10 Gbit / s), including a Type-C connection, audio jack and an RJ 45 – Ethernet port. If the connected PC cannot handle Thunderbolt 3, the hub can be operated to a limited extent via a USB type B port. The display then receives the image signal via DisplayPort 1.4 or 21 Hertz limited via HDMI 2.0. Two integrated 9-watt speakers round off the equipment.

The UltraSharp U 4021 QW in itself: Dell recommends 2100 US dollars, converted including 19 Percent VAT (not included in US prices) approx. 2040 Euro. Delivery is to begin at the end of January 2021. Some other announced UltraSharp monitors like the U 3821 DW for are cheaper US dollars, but with a lower resolution (here 3840 × 1600 Pixel) and without Thunderbolt 3rd LGs 34 WK 95 U with 5120 × 2160 Pixels and Thunderbolt 3 is from scarce 1000 Euro available.
