Cinematic Photos gives the Google Photos app a 3D effect. Artificial intelligence gives the subject different depths and blurring. This also works retrospectively for pictures that have already been taken. In addition, an animated movement, similar to a camera panning, should make the photos look as if they came from a film.

The function comes with the latest update from Google Photos, but this is only gradually available for different users. The pictures can then also be sent as a video. Google says in a blog post that they are still working on the implementation, feedback is therefore welcome.

More templates and reminder categories Also New are more templates and options for photo collages. These are now “richer, artistically designed layouts”, in which artificial intelligence helps to select suitable photos: For example, suggesting images with a similar color scheme and adapting the font and background colors accordingly.

The reminder function now also shows photos of the most important people as a category as well as favorite motifs, Google cites sunsets and activities such as hiking as examples. You can also hide images or categories and people.

Storage space on Google Drive is limited If you save photos with Google Drive, the capacities will no longer be unlimited from next year. The image size is then counted towards the storage space. From June 1st, this also applies to photos with less than 16 megapixels, which were previously free. 15 GBytes in the cloud are free at Google, if exceeded, Google threatens to delete data – but only after a warning. Google’s current Pixel cell phones are excluded from the change: If you own a Pixel 4a or a Pixel 5, you can still have unlimited photos with up to 16 MP resolution in Google Store drive.
