CNIL imposes new fines on Google and Amazon
Source: Hardware Luxx added 13th Dec 2020The French data protection authority is now known for imposing fines running into the millions against US tech companies. Now the Commission Nationale de l’Informatique et des Libertés (CNIL) has again imposed a fine on both Google and Amazon.
The reason for this is the tracking cookies used by the company. These were set without first obtaining the user’s consent. Amazon has to pay a total of 35 million euros and Google even 100 Million Euros. In addition to the illegal setting of cookies, the CNIL criticized the lack of information regarding a complete rejection of non-system-relevant cookies.
In addition to US companies, the individual and wholesaler Carrefour. Here the French data protection authority imposed a fine of 3, 05 million euros because the company 28 had illegally stored millions of customer data from a bonus program.
