Compal (possibly) hit by ransomware attack: manufactures laptops from Apple, Lenovo, HP and others

In recent days Compal was the victim of a hacker attack that would have impacted on 30% of the network. The most loyal readers will already know Compal, which is one of the leading notebook manufacturers and assemblers to which many of the best-known brands turn: Apple, Acer, Dell, Fujitsu, HP , Lenovo, Toshiba .
The incident was identified on Sunday morning and the attack would have been conducted by the DoppelPaymer gang, at least according to what is learned from the screenshot of the ransom note that some employees of Compal they shared with Yahoo Taiwan.
Comapl confirms the security incident, but denies the ransomware attack
The company, while confirming that it was the victim of a security incident, denied it was a ransomware attack. Qingxiong Lu, the company’s deputy director, told United News Network: “Compal is not being blackmailed by hackers as is rumored in the newspapers.” The company also confirmed that the incident had a limited impact and limited to the office network, while the production lines were not affected.
Compal employees arrived at work on Sunday morning and were greeted by a notice from the company’s IT department to check the status of their workstations and to perform the backup of important documents on secure systems. The compromised workstations were reinstalled and operations were restored yesterday.
