Corona pandemic: DisplayPort 2.0 is delayed
Source: Hardware Luxx added 15th Jan 2021It should not be a secret that the corona pandemic is having an impact on all people around the world. With sold out toilet paper or the cancellation of all major events, the COVID – 19 – virus also ensures that publications have to be postponed. In addition to movies or sporting events, the arrival of products with DisplayPort 2.0 is now also delayed. The reason for this is the lack of test capacities. During the pandemic, the manufacturer is unable to extensively test the new devices. It could therefore happen that errors only occur at the customer’s site, which is something you absolutely want to avoid.
For this reason, the introduction, which was supposed to take place last year, has been postponed until further notice. A new date was not mentioned. Those responsible only announced that products that support this standard can be expected this year.
However, the delayed introduction should not be a major problem. Even the new generation graphics cards, which are difficult to obtain, currently have a 1.4a display port. As a result, a monitor with a corresponding connection cannot be used without further ado. Thus, the new specification should initially be of no interest to the general public.
The new standard enables resolutions of up to 16 K. This corresponds to 15. 360 x 8. 460 pixels. The refresh rate is 60 Hz. The advantage of the DisplayPort 2.0, however, is that several displays can be switched one behind the other. It is possible to use three 4K monitors with 90 Hz with just one port. This means that setups with multiple screens can be implemented even more easily in the future. Provided, of course, that you don’t only use 16 K displays.
