The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) and the federal government published version 1.9 of the Corona warning app on Thursday. It should be distributed in a controlled manner to all smartphones with Android and iOS operating systems via the respective app stores within the next 48 hours. The change to version 2 of the Exposure Notification Framework (ENF) developed by Apple and Google is new. This means that more pseudonymous information is available about risk encounters.

More low risk = increased risk In the case of encounters with a low risk, the risk is now evaluated more precisely epidemologically, as stated in the information provided by the developers on the innovations of the Corona warning app. Depending on the infectiousness, there are several low-risk encounters (green card) with a total duration of 15 to 30 Minutes combined into an encounter with an increased risk (red card). The display in the app then changes accordingly to the red card of an encounter with an increased risk.

An increased risk encounter will in future be given the date on which the last encounter took place. The app also shows how many days there were encounters with an increased risk. This also applies in future to encounters with low risk. The number of days with encounters can now also be seen here.

Improvements Further improvements to the corona warning App concern the report of a positive COVID – 19 – test result. The “process from scanning the test result to sharing the diagnosis key” has now been improved, write the developers. This is to encourage more users to share their results in order to warn other users of the app.

The intervals at which temporary files from the Corona warning app are removed will be shorter. So far, these files were only released late by the operating system.

As before, the updates are also subject to a controlled roll-out in order to control the download volume in a meaningful way. Therefore, the app is not available to all users at the same time. In the short test, however, in such a case on an Apple iPhone, the download could be initiated manually from the Apple App Store by searching for the Corona warning app in the App Store and then updating the app at the push of a button. Users of Android smartphones, on the other hand, have to be patient because this option is not available in the Google Play Store. However, within 48 hours the app should appear under the updates.
