Introduction

Corsair is a US-based peripherals and hardware company founded in 1994. It is now one of the leading manufacturers for gaming gear, with a portfolio spanning nearly every component you need: DRAM memory modules, flash SSDs, keyboards, mice, cases, cooling, and much more.

Today, we’re reviewing the Corsair MP700 Pro SE, which is the company’s new flagship solid-state drive, supporting speeds up to 14 GB/s. This brings the number of “MP700” models to three: the first “MP700” reached up to 10 GB/s and was followed by the “MP700 Pro,” with 12 GB/s transfer rates. Today’s “MP700 Pro Special Edition” finally reaches close to the maximum rates possible with PCI-Express 5.0 x16. All these drives use the same Phison E26 controller, which is the only shipping Gen 5 consumer solution at this time (Innogrit is releasing a controller which should be out soon). The increased speeds are possible thanks to Micron 232-layer NAND flash, which ticks at 2400 MT/s—it’s still B58R. While other vendors include various heatsinks of different sizes on their Gen 5 drives, the MP700 Pro SE comes without a cooler—a model with heatsink is scheduled for later this quarter.

The Corsair MP700 Pro SE is only available as a 4 TB model, priced at $635, with endurance set to 3000 TBW. The heatsink models will also come in a 2 TB variant. Corsair includes a five-year warranty with the MP600 Elite SSD.
