E-prescription: RISE safeguards identities
Source: Heise.de added 20th Nov 2020The Austrian Research Industrial Systems Engineering (RISE) has received the contract from the project company Gematik as an identity verification service for the e-prescription. When verifying the identity of doctors, hospitals and pharmacists, RISE relies on the OpenID standard, which is based on OAuth 2.0, in accordance with Gematik’s requirements.
It was previously known that IBM provides the part of the service that stores e-prescriptions until they are called up by the pharmacy. The separation of the e-prescription process into two different services, provided by companies that are independent of each other, corresponds to the idea of data protection.
E- Prescription as future standard The e-prescription for medicinal products should be issued from July 1st 2021 and from January 1st 2022 will become the general standard. Narcotics prescriptions, green prescriptions and medical prescriptions are to follow later.
With OpenID Connect, a federated network is created in which, in the long term, the identity and patient insurance coverage can be checked. This should make it possible in the future that an electronic health card no longer has to be shown when visiting a doctor, but only the smartphone with the proof of identity has to be presented.
