William Li, company founder and CEO of Nio, presented the ET7 Nios, the first electrically powered sedan at Nio Day in Chengdu. So far, Nio only has crossover models such as the Nio ES6 (test) in its range. The potential range of the luxury model could be a headache for solid-state battery competition.

Much more interesting for most customers are the two larger battery packs with 100 kWh and even 150 kWh with which the Nio ET7 ranges from 700 or 1000 should be able to drive kilometers without reloading. The solid-state battery of the top model, installed for the first time in a series vehicle, has a high energy density of 360 Wh / kg. We have not yet learned anything about the charging time, which would have been exciting as solid state batteries are not exactly quick-charging.

Faster than fast charging thanks to the battery exchange system In addition to the different capacities, Nio has been offering since 2018 a battery exchange system. By the end of the year in China 500 such changing stations are created, which should save you the tough loading processes. Per day at each of the charging stations up to 300 battery packs can be changed. Porsche, on the other hand, is trying faster and faster charging than the Porsche Taycan. It currently reaches up to 270 kW a full charge in under an hour (test).

With increasingly better networked systems, Nio wants the ET7 to drive more and more autonomously on highways, in the city and when parking and also to enable automatic battery change.

The central control unit is a 12, 8 inch display in the middle of the dashboard with the already known NOMI control system with artificial intelligence. The shortest processing times are guaranteed by a high-performance computer named Adam, which thanks to the Orin SoCs from Nvidia with 1016 Teraflop computing power achieved, as it will soon enable autonomous driving at level 5 at Daimler and other manufacturers.

Optional battery rental The body of the Nio ET7 with retractable door handles enables a good c W – Value of only 0, 23. The narrow LED daytime running lights with headlights underneath create a similarity to the ES8 and ES6 models. At the back, Nio mounts the now common continuous light strip. A glazing that extends far beyond the roof area is one of the advantages of the body.
