Electricity prices: Energy association BDEW calls for relief

The Federal Association of Energy and Water Management (BDEW) calls for a noticeable and reliable reduction in electricity prices. General Manager Kerstin Andreae told the German Press Agency: “It is good that the federal government is ensuring with its economic stimulus program that the EEG surcharge does not go through the roof next year.” The slight reduction in surcharges by 0 25 cents in the next year and by 0.5 cents a year 2022 should only be the first step. “The EEG surcharge should be frozen at a level of a maximum of 5 cents by law, the electricity tax should be reduced to the minimum permitted under European law.”

The EEG surcharge for promoting green electricity would have risen to a record high next year – however, the federal government has already announced a cap. According to information from the German Press Agency, the EEG surcharge 2021 would otherwise have risen from currently around 6.8 cents per kilowatt hour to around 9.6 cents. The operators of the large power grids want to announce the arithmetic amount of the EEG surcharge for the coming year on Thursday.

High state taxes So that the electricity prices do not rise sharply, the federal government had already decided that the EEG surcharge will be limited to 6.5 cents per kilowatt hour in the coming year and to 6.0 cents in the year 2022 .
