Electronic Arts bought Codemasters, beating Take-Two's competition

EA acquired UK publisher and developer Codemasters for $ 1.2 billion. The operation allows the US company to get hold of established brands such as F1, DiRT and Project Cars. Beat the competition from Take-Two.

Electronic Arts Codemasters

Electronic Arts has acquired Codemasters by blowing it to none other than Take-Two, the first to move to own the British software house . The US publisher then comes into possession of brands of great value such as the series F1, DiRT, Grid and Project Cars . A twist announced by some rumors in the past few hours, which became official thanks to the agreement reached by EA with the board of directors of Codemasters. The transaction is valued at approximately 1.2 billion dollars and will be completed in the first quarter 2021.

Our industry is growing, the racing game genre is thriving and together we will be positioned to lead a new era of entertainment. For many years we have admired Codemasters’ creative talent and high quality games . We are delighted that both of our boards of directors are supporting this transaction and look forward to welcoming such an exciting and talented team into the Electronic Arts family, “said Andrew Wilson, CEO of Electronic Arts.

Frank Sagnier, CEO of Codemasters, and Rashid Varachia, CFO of Codemasters, together with the current management team will continue to lead Codemasters even after joining the ranks of Electronic Arts.
