Electronic Arts has made an offer to buy the Codemasters studio. The transaction will end in the first months of 2021
Source: Pure PC added 14th Dec 2020In November, information appeared on the web suggesting that Take-Two decided to purchase the British studio Codemasters, known primarily from such series as DiRT, GRID and F1 (Formula 1). Recently, they are also owners of the Project Cars brand, as they took over another studio – Slightly Mad Studios. Today, however, other information has been confirmed. At the last moment, the company Electronic Arts also made a purchase offer, whose portfolio includes, among others Need for Speed and Burnout. Now we know that EA will fight to take over the studio. They decided to submit a bid at a price of approximately $ 1.2 billion. How will this translate into the upcoming titles from the well-known and popular studio serving us more DiRTs and Formula 1?
Electronic Arts decided at the last minute to submit an offer to buy a British studio Codemasters, known from DiRT, GRID and Formula 1. The transaction is expected to end in the first quarter 2021 of the year.
In November, we informed about the T2 offer, which for the amount of 973 millions of dollars wanted to buy the Codemasters studio. The entire transaction was to be finalized in the first quarter of the year. It turns out, however, that ultimately the not-so-liked by Electronic Arts players made an even better offer. Over $ 1.2 billion for access to brands such as DiRT, GRID, Formula 1 and Project Cars (by the way, Slightly Mad Studios has already prepared racing games under the Need for Speed sign for EA) is a really big sum. Thanks to this, however, EA can have most of the most popular racing brands under its wing, available on PC and consoles. The transaction is also expected to be completed in the first quarter 2021 of the year
Although EA and Codemasters confirm that the offer has been submitted for the above-mentioned amount, further changes may occur soon. If Take-Two is very keen on the studio, it can still counter-bid for an even higher amount. If this does not happen, in a few months EA will discover new brands and a new studio. May it not end up like BioWare (which is a shadow of the company from years ago) or Visceral Games, which completely ceased to exist. Who knows, maybe in the future Codemasters will be responsible for the next installments of the popular Need for Speed series.
