The company will be able to fly its Scout drones for the first time without having to deploy observers on the path to carry out the visual flight, but only with the remote control of a pilot to do as supervisor in beyond the line-of-sight mode.

Drones

There is great interest around the drones and the possibilities that are about to open up, even in the short term future. Regulatory bodies are working in the direction of autonomous drone flights, both in Europe and abroad. An interesting news comes from overseas, where the FAA Federal Aviation Administration – US has given its approval to the experimentation of autonomous flights in beyond the line-of-sight mode by the company American Robotics.

Autonomous flights without observers on the ground begin

The company will be able to fly its own Scout drones for the first time without having to deploy on the route observers to perform the flight on sight , but only with the remote control of a pilot in beyond the line-of-sight mode a act as supervisor . The authorization concerns rural areas , in conditions of good daytime visibility at a maximum altitude of 120 feet (equal to about 120 meters of maximum height established by European regulations) . The FAA has also set a maximum take-off weight of 01 pound, equal to just over 9 kilograms.

At the moment the flights can have the sole purpose of research, training of pilots and market surveys. A pilot will need to monitor the drone throughout the flight, possibly to take control of it in extreme cases.

The first field trials will concern applications related to agriculture , but the way should be traced towards the transport of things and further on towards the transport of people with self-driving flying vehicles.
