Facebook's smart glasses will be signed with the Ray-Ban brand. Unfortunately, they will lack the key expected function
Source: Pure PC added 08th Jan 2021Facebook has been working on its vision of smart glasses for a long time. Some have argued that they will be based on augmented reality technology, but a recent comment by Andrew Bosworth to Bloomberg rules out that possibility. The mentioned gadget will lack VR support, while the goggles will offer several other features that will be appreciated by users who decide to buy the equipment. The interesting thing about the whole thing is that the glasses could hit the shelves later this year. The indications are that it will happen sooner rather than later. However, it is still unknown what exactly the smart goggles can offer.
Facebook’s smart glasses will not receive augmented reality support. So what will surprise us with goggles without AR.
Intel RealSense ID, i.e. face recognition in ATMs and locks paired with smart home systems
Andrew Bosworth claims that Facebook’s smart glasses will debut later this year, and he takes participation of the well-known and respected brand Ray-Ban. The vice president of virtual reality FB assures that the goggles will offer a number of features, but not the solutions that everyone expects. It was even said that the equipment would not be compatible with the AR. The lack of augmented reality may come as a surprise if we consider that Facebook owns the Oculus brand, through which it develops devices from the augmented reality segment.

Smart glasses are supposed to be a rather fashionable gadget that is inconspicuous. Their operation may be subtle and may be limited to interaction with various objects, the implementation of interpersonal contacts, and perhaps also answering incoming calls. All this without the need to “break away from the real world.” How functional Facebook goggles will be is kept a secret, and the leaks suggest very little. However, taking into account the upcoming premiere, I dare to say that unofficially soon the information will intensify and take more specific forms.
