After an interlocutory year, the world of PCI Express 4.0 SSDs is ready to populate of very fast solutions. In recent days we talked about the upcoming Silicon Motion controllers and before that tested the Samsung 980 PRO. In all this Phison , the first to make a PCI Express 4.0 controller (pushed to do so by AMD for Ryzen debut 3000), is working hard to regain lost leadership.
Phison E 18, a thorn in Samsung’s side?
As reported by Tom’s Hardware, the new controller PS 5018 – E 18 seems to have the credentials to allow producers to create SSDs of absolute value: the new proposal would be in the final stages of development and, as you can see from the IOmeter test, it is able to offer I / O performance exceeding 1.2 million IOPS , a result even higher than that ensured by Samsung’s proposal.
“Company no he did not tell us what specific interventions he took to get to this speed or shared the details of the test platform, but we know that these results were obtained with an engineering sample from 2 TB equipped with Micron B memory 27 B TLC a 96 layer from 512 Gb “, writes Tom’s Hardware.
Thanks to the arrival of new console from Sony and Microsoft, the 2021 promises to be a golden year for SSDs, which although already very popular they will find even more favor with the games that will finally begin to be optimized to make better use of the fast NAND flash memory. Also not to forget that, thanks to QLC memory, the industry will see a new leap in capacity, with several companies already announcing solutions up to 8 TB.
