We know that the world of automotive pointed decisively in the direction of electric cars . Hybrid, mild-hybrid or fully electric, more and more models are being presented with technologies to be coupled or to replace internal combustion engines. But if for some brands it may seem like a simple step (even if it often isn’t), for others it may be more complicated: this is the case with Ferrari .
Ferrari: electrification yes, but only for a limited percentage
Ferrari is in a different situation than most of the market. In fact we know how it is synonymous with luxury but also with sportsmanship and the weight of its brand in the automotive world is well known (as it is on the stock exchange).
The last statement regarding Ferrari and electric cars was made by none other than Louis Camilleri (CEO of the company) during the press conference with the shareholders for the release of the financial results of Q3 2020.
According to Camilleri, a brand as Ferrari can never be al 100% electric and probably under your guidance it will not even be at 50%. This does not exclude the possibility that in the future a fully electric car with the pony logo may not be presented, but it will not be the main part of the business . Internal combustion engines will remain for a long time to come.
Certainly the hybridization strategy of the models that we have seen starting with the limited series (LaFerrari) and then continuing the SF 90 Road. And in the future it will expand with further additions even in the lower end of the market. In general, however, nothing is excluded, even according to statements dating back a few months ago.
Recently also Morgan Stanley, through one of his analysts, expressed positive opinions regarding the marriage between Ferrari and electric cars . One of the conclusions of the analysis was “we believe that the final result of Ferrari’s transition to electric vehicles may be the main reason that will affect the price of their shares over the next 3-5 years “.
This is not a minor novelty considering that other brands of luxury are pointing in different directions. For example Bentley for the 2030 may no longer have cars with combustion engines in their range but only electric cars. Porsche instead may have a more similar approach to Ferrari , with one of its iconic models (911) which will not be electrified in the short term.
