There is a leak in Apple’s hardware department: After the first detailed information about the new MacBook Pro, details about the group’s new desktop computers have now also leaked. The most concrete information relates to the iMac, which has been in the same guise for many years. According to the well-known Apple reporter Mark Gurman from the financial news agency Bloomberg , this will soon be equipped with an M1 chip – and will also have a new look.

Look between Pro Display XDR and iPad Pro According to him, the revised machine will get a design that will be based on Apple’s Pro Display XDR. This includes a smaller display edge and a flat and not curved back of the device.

Otherwise, the iMac will in future follow the design language introduced with the iPad Pro. This is also flat with rounded corners. Gurman sees two new model variants, the 21, 5- and 27 – Replace inch machines. Previously there was also speculation about new display sizes with 23 to 24 Customs given – possibly the successor of the 21, 5-inch model more area.

ARM chip with 16 High performance cores Major internal innovation is Apple’s ARM chip, so the all-in-one machine is also moving towards Apple Silicon. Apparently a new generation of the M1 will be installed here – currently tests with up to 16 High-performance cores and 4 “Efficiency” cores are running, later 32 high-performance cores could be installed .

At the same time, Apple is working on improved graphics for its SoC with up to 32 GPU cores. The new iMacs are still to come 2021, although a release date is still missing here.

Mac Pro and “Mac Pro mini” Gurman has also receive information about the upcoming Mac Pro. Allegedly, Apple wants to offer its professional desktops in two versions in the future. One of them is allegedly based on the once popular and controversial PowerMac G4 Cube – that is, in the shape of a cube, about half the size of the current Intel Mac Pro. Apple Silicon would be integrated with accelerated chips. The exterior should consist almost entirely of aluminum.

The larger Mac Pro should stay with the current design and possibly not switch to Apple Silicon at first – as the only machine in the lineup afterwards. The reason could be that many extensions, for example in the video area, have not yet been adapted for ARM Macs. It will also be interesting to see how Apple PCIe expansion cards are integrated into Apple Silicon computers.

Display News The Bloomberg report also has information about new Apple screens ready. These should round off the Pro Display XDR, which currently costs at least 21 euros without a stand. The screen is supposedly more intended for consumers and should not be as bright and equipped with a lower contrast ratio. Price information is still pending. Apple had its once popular Thunderbolt display from 2011 for under 1000 Euro street price sold, 2016 it was discontinued. (bsc)
