Flexgate: Apple extends exchange program
Source: Hardware Luxx added 19th Jan 2021
Already in January 2019 Hardwareluxx reported on the so-called “stage light effect”, which could occur with the MacBook Pro from the year 2016. With the “stage lighting effect” it looks as if there are isolated spotlights on the underside of the display, similar to a theater stage. This effect is caused by a defect in the display cable. The Californian company responded and published a corresponding repair program. The total runtime was four years after the first sale in October 2016.
However, the problem still seems to play a role for some MacBook owners in the year 2021 and so the iPhone company decided to continue Offer free repairs to affected MacBook Pros. Instead of four, the program now has a term of five years.
The devices affected by the Flexgate could be used in the period from October 2016 to February 2018 purchase. However, only the 13 inch Macbook Pro notebooks are affected. If you are one of the first-time buyers, you can send your MacBook in until October 2021 and have Apple repaired it free of charge.
