Ford introduces on Ford Kuga the new Lane-Keeping System with Blind Spot Assist . It is about coming to the driver’s rescue in a very recurring scenario, that is when you check the rear-view mirrors and the surrounding environment before starting a lane change to discover, suddenly, that another vehicle appears, apparently out of nowhere , behind or next to your car.

The new system, which combines the Blind Spot Information System (BLIS) and the Lane-Keeping System, comes into operation when the driver signals a lane change or the control system detects a lane change with the approach of a vehicle in the blind spot which could lead to a potential collision . In these conditions the system applies counter steering to warn the driver and discourage moving .

Blind Spot Assist using a warning light in the outside rearview mirror.

New Lane-Keeping System technology with Blind Spot Assist takes it one step further, applying slight force to the steering wheel to discourage drivers from switching lane, in the event that they may accidentally meet the trajectory of another road user and thus away from any dangers.

The radar sensors of the Blind Spot Assist of Kuga, which come into operation at a speed between 30 km / hei 200 km / h, are capable of scanning parallel lanes up to 28 meters behind the vehicle, for 20 times per second . The intervention by the system is activated automatically if the technology, by monitoring the road markings through the front camera, detects a lane change and calculates that two vehicles are on a collision course. The system may intervene to help prevent collisions with approaching vehicles at speeds of up to approximately 30 km / h.

Intersection Assist

Debuts on the new Kuga, also the technology Intersection Assist which uses the vehicle’s front camera, combined with a radar, to monitor potential collisions with oncoming vehicles.

The technology automatically acts on the brakes when traveling at a maximum speed of 30 km / h, to help prevent or mitigate the effects of accidents in scenarios where a driver is turning in the path of an approaching vehicle, as is commonly the case at intersections or small roundabouts.

A study found that, in Europe, more than one incident and serious every ten occurs at intersections, involving the collision of cars with other cars, vans, buses or trucks.

And since the Intersection Assist works without the need to detect road references such as lane signs or sidewalks can also intervene in parking lots, construction sites or other places without clear signs or traffic priority.

Both technologies can work either in daylight and in the dark with the headlights activated.

Kuga offers a wide range of technologies grouped all Interior of the Ford Co-Pilot and designed to improve safety, driveability and parking maneuvers.

Technologies such as Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go, Speed Sign Recognition and Lane Centering have recently earned the Blue Oval SUV a leadership position in the first ranking dedicated to assisted driving technologies drawn up by Euro NCAP , ahead of models such as Tesla Model 3 and Volvo V 60 .

Additional driver assistance technologies available for Kuga, include the Pre Collision Assist with Active Braking el ?? Active Park Assist Upgrade .
