From Druva the first service for cloud backup of NAS
Source: HW Upgrade added 30th Oct 2020
The Druva solution allows to simplify backup management and reduce costs, all without having to buy new hardware. In addition to ensuring the security of information from disasters, it also protects against ransomware attacks

Druva NAS backup
Druva is a company specialized in cloud backup solutions operating globally, with offices in the USA, in Europe, Japan, India and Singapore. Within its catalog there are backup solutions for VMware, Microsoft 365, Kubernets, SalesForce , AWS and, more recently, a new service has been introduced: the backup of NAS to cloud .
NAS cloud backup: simpler, safer and cheaper
The NAS itself is already a backup device, but by itself it is not enough: the RAID configurations of the disks housed on the drive ensure continuity, but to ensure long-term data security It is always advisable to have at least two other copies of the data, one of which in a separate geographical location: by doing so, even in the event of a disaster (think of a fire), the information will be safe and you will always have the opportunity to recover it. It goes without saying that doing so increases both the costs and the complexity of the system. Druna’s solution is a simple service to configure to backup directly to the “cloud”, without having to invest in new hardware and with great simplicity.
The operation of the Druva solution is very simple, which can be summarized in four steps:
- Add a NAS proxy to the environment from the Druva console;
- Add the NAS (or more than one if needed) via the console;
- Indicate the folders to be saved in the cloud;
- Define the policy, for example the time and day the backups are to be made.
An advanced solution
Druva’s solution supports various protocols, such as NFS and SMB, and protects environmental ti like NetApp and EMC Isolon, among others. It is not limited to simply copying files to a cloud system, but allows you to manage the archiving in a more granular way, for example by separating the archives between warm and cold storage. Warm storage refers to data that is accessed frequently which, in case of need, must be recovered as soon as possible. Cold storage, on the other hand, is suitable for archives that are rarely accessed, which do not necessarily need to be restored in record time in the event of a disaster.
Thanks to the support for deduplication, it is possible to speed up the backup and take up less space on the server , thus lowering the TCO. The data is encrypted in real time, to ensure security, and is isolated, so as to offer protection even against ransomware.
