GeForce Now is the first major cloud gaming service to appear on iPhone and iPad. However, the service cannot be found in the App Store, it starts as a web app in the pre-installed Safari browser, Nvidia initially lists this as “Beta”.

Due to “hardware limitations”, games that are controlled solely by keyboard and mouse cannot be streamed on the iPhone and iPad, emphasizes Nvidia, a game controller is required. The provider refers to its list of recommended gamepads.

Fortnite with touch customization in progress Together with Epic Games I am currently Still working on a touch adaptation of Fortnite, as Nvidia announced on Thursday, the game is therefore not yet available on iOS devices via GeForce Now at the start, but will follow. This should bring Fortnite back to iPhones and iPads via the browser. Apple has banned the game from the App Store due to contractual and business disputes with Epic Games. Epic would like to integrate its own payment interface, this is not allowed in the App Store for digital services.

GeForce Now is the first major cloud gaming provider to which is available on iPhone and iPad – as a web app. Amazon Luna also takes this detour, but the service is currently only available to a limited group of users.

Apple versus cloud gaming The reason for this is that Apple is reluctant to play game streaming in the App Store: Originally, cloud gaming services were not allowed at all, after a rule change they are allowed, but providers must submit all games to Apple for review and individually in the App Store. In addition, Apple’s in-app purchase interface has to be integrated, which means that the iPhone group automatically receives up to 30 Percentage commission.

GeForce Now runs games on Nvidia’s servers, the end device only transmits the user’s inputs and displays the rendered stream – according to the operator in 1080 p with 50 frames per second. The user must have already bought the games – for example on platforms such as Steam or Origin – in order to be able to stream them via GeForce Now. The game platform GOG is to be supported soon, as Nvidia announced. The cloud gaming service can be used free of charge with restrictions, the subscription for full access costs 5 50 per month.
